Domaine Vincent Paris, Cornas, Granit 60

Great wine - nicely balanced with a sweet attack followed by deep, intense fruit. Will probably soften further but it’s just right for me now. I’ve drunk a few vintages of the 30 and the 60 and I’d say the 60 is definitely worth paying for and seeking out.

2019 vintage

The wine enters its prime drinking window with a complex bouquet of spices, some white pepper, umami, blood and fresh plums and blackberries. On the palate its full bodied with some candied black fruit and some garigue. Due to the warmer flavor profile I would enjoy this granite over the next 5-10 years.

2016 vintage

A little muted on the nose, but flavour was incredible - berries, cream but also savoury hints, liquorice, spice…we decanted for an hour, but I think go longer if possible. The last glass after three hours was amazing. Chewy, smooth and luxurious.

Decanted for three hours prior to tasting and recording this note. Very very good Very deep purple color; Hard grape candy nose. Rich, concentrated dark fruit up front; quite compelling. Savory notes of saddle leather, spice box, and cedar pencil on the mid palate. The wind features a long finish with moderate tannins. It continues to improve, and will probably get better with another couple of years in the bottle. That said, it’s delicious right now.

I shared this with my wine group at a Turkish restaurant, better than I remember previous bottles of this.

2016 vintage

Decanted for 3 hours, which made the wine approachable and expressive, showing layers of dark fruit, violets, pepper, and a distinct granite minerality. Powerful yet balanced, with firm tannins and great freshness. Already enjoyable with air, but clearly built for the long haul – best to cellar at least another 5 years. In terms of price/value, Vincent Paris is without doubt one of the very best producers of Cornas.

2019 vintage

1st bottle from a half case bought en primeur. Big complex nose as noted well by others. Medium weight body, long finish. Drinking well now and likely to improve further. A good buy.

2016 vintage

Herbs, red and dark berries and leather in the bouquet. Same on the palate, raspberry, elegant, juicy acidity and full bodied. Minerals, complex and supple. Good freshness. In its early maturity stage.

2016 vintage

As always a great Cornas from old vines. Intense dark cherries, raspberries, white pepper and a little dark chocolate. Still rather young, with grippy but fine tannins. This will age gracefully for the next decade.

2016 vintage

One of 3 Northern Rhone wines with my wine group. All were opened, but not decanted for over an hour. This is a very good wine, but on this night it suffered in comparrison to a 2007 and 2010 Paul Jaboulet Aîné Hermitage La Chapelle. Under different circumstances we would have loved this. But compared to the older Hermitages, this came off as over oaked with gobs of fruit. Sometimes context is everything.

Medium intensity on the nose with black fruit, licorice, sweet herbs, oak spices, dustiness. Medium+ acidity, medium+ (sandy) tannins, long finish. 92+ Such a great QPR this producer, this will be better in 5 years

Rhone Paulee-a-thon (Clarette) : Brief note as I was so beset with other good things. As inky and primary as you'd expect, with dark fruits and violets. Nice wine, but didn't exactly have me firing up WSPro...

Stemmy nose, a touch of green which suits the wine well. More Cornas character: blood, iron and iodine notes. Rich fruit, multiple layers. This is beau vin. Starting to move but still very young. Granit 60 tasting chez Lillelund.

2016 vintage

This is the real McCoy. Like an imaginary blend of 2020 & 2021, this has both depth and fresh, balance and structure. Some Cornas-iron here as week, beef and blood. On day 2&3, this does not disappoint, a very firm, cool, granit presence. #ParisTasting#ChezMoi

2019 vintage

Closed, shy. Massive fruit again, but much better balance and harmony compared to the 2020. Just a hint of Cornas character, tar and iron at the back. Great potential here, wait 5-10 years. Granit 60 tasting chez Lillelund.

2016 vintage

Decanted for one hour prior to tasting. Deep magenta color; currant nose. Loads of black fruit, all underscored by a strong tannic structure. This one is a few years away from reaching its maturational plateau, and I suggest holding it for another 3 to 5 years, before trying it again. That said, it’s delicious and shows amazing upside potential

2019 vintage

The bouquet is still a bit reticent with blue berries, mint and some cedar. On the palate garrigue, minerals, juicy, medium+ acidity and round tannin with a pleasant bite. Good length and body. Will probably improve with a few more years of ageing.

Quick note from memory. Intense dark cherries with some blackberries. Strong bit fine tannins, needs time.

2019 vintage

On the first day it was good but not as good as I remember earlier vintages of Granit 60. A matter of preference. Slightly sharper and less fruit than I was hoping for. Still very good. After a few days it was AWESOME! Opened up - much more fruit, a bit of sweetness, very nice. Similar to what I remember from other vintages of the same.

2016 vintage

Beef fat on the nose, whiffs of black pepper. Black fruit with violets and liquorice on the lingering finish. Fine grained tannins made this wine pair well with medium rare lamb. There is a nice minerality. Second Cornas for me after 2018 Les Chailles by Alain Voge. This is a more elegant Cornas in comparison.

2016 vintage

Dark, bright colour. Very primary. Big rich, licorice. Shows the flamboyance and richness of the vintage, shows size and brawn rather than fine detail. Graphite, black fruit, firm grip, big wine.

2019 vintage

Complex bouquet with dark berries, iron and mineral impressions. Same on the palate, juicy and fresh acidity, sticky tannin and a great length. Very beautiful wine with great freshness, complexity and a pleasant touch of sweetness.

2016 vintage

Very little sediment, opaque deep purple in color. On the nose: mushroom, leather, beef jus and cigar box. Somewhat closed initially. Right out of the bottle there is excellent balance between fruit, tannin and acid, with clear notes of cherry, blackberry and ... smoke. After an hour's decant, initial impressions of balance were confirmed. Very well integrated with emerging savory notes, spicecake, and beef jus notes. A really nicely made wine - I wish I had a few more bottles!

Pure Spirits 1st grand tasting (George Lycabetus Hotel) : The wine is very different to Granit 30, dense, thicker, black cherry, licorice, the fruit is darker, dense, higher extraction, but there is also an acidity hue In the palate, the wine is smooth, high intensity, black fruit, currant, cherry, a touch of alcohol, mineral, earthy, tight tannins, a touch aggressive to drink now but could age beautifully, long finish

2019 vintage

Darker, denser than the 30 - and less rustic, actually. Dark matter, blood on the tracks, yet quite open. Will live and develop, but approachable. 92++

2019 vintage

Even crazier concentration than the 30 and with firmer tannins. Needs tons of time - a decade or more. It will probably shut down for a period then emerge more complex.

Ripe dark fruits, menthol and sweet earth notes on the nose and in the mouth. It is dense and fleshy, with a touch of chocolate to the flavour profile. Tannins are supple and the finish has energy and persistence.

Wow, this is really a convincing mix of in your face power with great structure and balance. The bouquet comes with blackberries, vanilla, white pepper, black cherries, thyme and dark chocolate. The palate powerful and fresh at the same time. The tannins are still strong but it’s already fun to enjoy now. It’s well made, no barnyard funk here and has a touch of CD9P mixed into classical Cornas Syrah on granite. Will be exiting to follow over the next …
