Wasn't expecting much, but how good this was!! Sadly haven't taken notes, but it was rich and structured, extremely aromatic and flavourful, all the while being balanced, and refined. Awesome!

Probably a little over the hill. But really not bad. I can definitely the red cherry core, even some black cherry dust and chocolate-covered cherry cordials. This was much darker than that. Slightly overripe black fruit, medium to full-bodied wine. Was a little bit disjointed right after the cork was popped. This one was much more a black licorice, fig, slightly nitrogenous, even a little bit foresty right at the start. Really did much better after an hour. Finished with …

Dried cherries, spice and leather on the nose -- really good and rich. Palate is spicy, meaty, mushroomy, with tingling acid throughout. Has a definite tannic ending that carries on. Has done well with the added age. Could easily carry on beyond 2017, but for me this is my last.

This is an awesome wine with a excellent PQR (or is it QPR). (I bought it for about US$25 in 2009.) Uncorked in Feb 2017, I was worried that it was past it's prime, but after letting it sit for about an hour after uncorking, it was one of the better wines that I've had in the last few months. (Note--these have been well-cellared.)

Jammy black fruits with layers of cedar on the nose. The palate is also a little jammy, though not cloying because of great acidity. The tannins are completely dissolved, giving just enough structure to the finish for the wine to stand up. This is just the right age for such a New World wine.

Garnet red color, earthy dark cheery aromas, light-medium weight, mostly mixed cherry fruit, a bit of herbal earthiness, no noticeable tannins, short finish. Pleasant enough but nearing the end of the drinking window we think.

Similar to the bottle I had in 2015 -- nose is big with dark cherries, spice, leather. The palate has bright juicy spice tones and undercurrent of leather and mushroom, with a pleasant modest tannic end. I'm going to move this due date to 2017 because it really shows no sign of deterioration.

Thai at Dural : Chocolate, earth, cola, tar and dark cherry with a stalky background character. Rich on the palate, but that stalk note is there as well and it helps it from feeling too plush or dense. Easy to drink but has character as well.

Big nose of meat and an element of funky barnyard -- primal and good. The palate is juicy, spicy, leathery -- a satisfying sense of heft. Seems very lively so should be good at least through 2016.

Aerate to decanter and serve, color not noted. Bouquet is much like I remember it from the '02, with beautiful warm reduced sauce of cherries and red berries, flowery notes, leather, mushroom, cinnamon, spices and oak. Energetic yet elegant on the palate with ripe cherries of a very good vintage, baking spices, truffles lending umami, and tea leaves with raspberries in an extended finish. Medium acid and tannins that are well integrated but still giving structure. Overall a well made …

(Easter@theChans) big meaty leather, perfumey and classy with dark berries, pepper and sweet blackcurrant. Sweet tannins, silky leather, redcurrants. Still youngish and pretty, elegantly structured. Finishes ashy, sour-ish with dark earth, canned lychee. Mid-bodied with gentle structure, drinking well now, but already falling apart somewhat with time in glass.

Very Good. Oozing class, wonderfully savoury GSM blend. Surprisingly high acid given the ripeness. Powerful cedary notes play against trademark ripe Torbreck dark fruit. Long length. Could have held for longer, but not certain that it would improve from here. Cork.

Enjoyed this very much with a rib roast, mushroom risotto, and roasted asparagus. Decanted for about two hours and had a very balanced wine with silky tannins. A great effort.

Sadly my last bottle - brought by deoz from Down Under since it's unavailable in Canada. Drank with dekerf. Decanted for little more than an hour and served slightly chilled. Continued to open up over dinner of barbecued steaks. It's clear why The Steading remains winemaker David Powell's favourite of his Tobreck wines - the GSM pours as a deep ruby with aromas of truffle, five spice and spring flowers. Powell notes it's ‘Burgundian’ in style - elegant and pure …

Very different to my previous tasting and not as impressive but this is still pretty smart. Shows a herbal green note yet what I'd call underripe. Grenache makes its presence felt with some good old worldy stinky fruits and spice. Definitely nothing else to be gained from cellaring.

Dark red. Really nice ripe red fruit and some creaminess from the oak. There was a bit of scorched earth that gave it some nice complexity. Delicious creamy blackberry and pepper flavours. Nice balanced finish. Delicious.

Tasted blind. Ripe nose of cherry pie, black plum, ripe raspberry, red flowers, roasted coffee beans, along with a good showing of black pepper/spice. Black cherry and plum on the palate, along with some bacon, and black pepper/clove spice. Lots of tannin, with medium acidity, and a medium+ finish ending with notes of black cherry and black pepper. While I guessed the vintage, Grenache and new world, I couldn't nail down Australia which I'm sure has something to do with …

On pop and pour, very deep, rich fruit filled nose. On the palate, it was not very balanced and a little hot. After an hour decant, raspberry and cherry n the palate with a medium finish which still had a touch of heat. I would hold off for awhile or make sure you decan.

Australia Trip : Tasted at the winery. this is a big, chewy wine very concentrated flavors of dark fruits, cassis and forest floor. Very tannic, and probably just needs a few years in the bottle. Would look forward to trying this again in a afew years. (Doris 92)

At Wolfe's Torbreck tasting w David Powell. Simply the best mouverdre I've ever tasted. Like a smooth great shiraz, but softer. Torbreck's (dave Powell's) notes- The wild rugged and earthen aromas typically associated with the Bandol region of France provides the basis for this powerful single vineyard Mataro. Fresh soil, tree bark, cassis and leather dominate the nose with hints of spice, chocolate and drying meats evolving with time in the glass. The expansive palate is rich and dense with …

9 Blind Mourvedre : The nose of this wine had earth, chocolate, raisin and plums. It smelled like an amarone to me. The palate had rustic dark fruit and black olive flavors with notes of spice, earth and some heat evident. This wine grew on me after a few sips, because I wasn't enjoying it very much when we first started tasting it. I've enjoyed several Torbreck wines in the past, but I was a bit underwhelmed by this one.
