Fantastic in its youth. I’m glad I have another bottle for a few years from now. Blackberry, graphite, leather, tobacco. Extremely smooth after being open for 30 minutes. The scuttlebutt last year was that this vintage is 100% from To Kalon vineyard in Oakville and Wappo Hill in Stag’s Leap, possibly 50/50. Can’t verify, and at $33 I don’t really care.

Juicy fruit forward CS with fine tiny tannin. Paired well with a flat iron steak and bearnaise sauce.

On nose: cassis, oak gall and bitter chocolate. On palate:all above flavour notes amplified, with 14.5% alcohol present, displaying some heat. After a 3 hour decant, this 6 year old began to loosen up slightly, showing pipe tobacco, ripe red plums, Kona coffee, and a dark herbal edge of rosemary......a full bodied red, with 85% Cabernet in the mix, deep , opaque purple/ black in the glass with the darkest crimson border. Not fully knit together yet, the oak is …

Tasting with severe seasonal allergies but when burgers are on the menu... General impression is that there has been an improvement since my last tasting 3 years ago. Concentrated plum and black berries, oak spices, and more resolved tannins. Very good QPR at the price paid, but the asking price now (>$60) puts it in a bracket with much more competition. Will update when the sniffles are over.... Oct 2024 pretty much the same. Tannins could use a few more …

The last time I had this wine, it was very herbal and green. It wasn't what I expected from a Napa wine, but this time, everything was pure California. I detected aromas of violet, brown sugar, blackberry, cassis, and a hint of dried herbs. The initial taste was juicy with blackberry, vanilla, brown sugar, oak, and violet. The tannins were medium minus and a 90-minute decant softened it up and lessened the ripeness, and two hours to get a hint …

Classic, full bodied Napa Cab in a more old world style. Cassis, leather, tar and smoke with deep dark fruit. Still has 5-10 years left but drinking great now.

Deep ruby colour. Medium and developing nose with green bell pepper, stems, blackcurrant, black pepper, tobacco, cedar and dried herbs. Medium taste of green bell pepper, stems, leather, blackcurrant, tobacco, cedar and dried herbs. Long and dry finish. Medium acidity. High and graining tannins. Full body. A very good Napa Valley Cab that needs time. Drink in five to fifteen years. Goes well with beef or lamb.

From 75cl, closure not seen, opened but not decanted 90 minutes, which felt about right, positive development in glass. Strong blackcurrant scent; big-bodied entry to the seamless, pure, muscular but balanced mid-palate; tannins very well-integrated, adding support to all that ripe blackcurrant/dark berry fruit and retronasal herbal action. Most CT reviews below seem either to report "suprised this tasted as good as it did" or "this is an overpriced, underperforming cliché" but as someone who mainly drinks Bordeaux but is …

Oh my! I dunno if it was what we paired this with (bbq sirloin kabobs) but it paired beautifully! Long finish and notes of black cherry, plum and a bit of oak. Drinking at prime right now.

The nose has a touch of minerality with blackcurrant, black peppers, toasted cumin and thyme. Palate is rich and fresh with some veggie components in the mid-palate. Medium-bodied structure. Need some time for the wine to open up. Finish is velvety with juicy cassis.

Nothing special and a bit hot. Starts with aromas of cola and cedar wood amidst blackberry fruit. In mouth its cherry with an acidic dominant and unresolved mouthfeel. In the finish it is biting and very tinged cherry finish. Drying and likely built for more age. I didn't like it at now 5 years.

Family Blind Cabernet Tasting (The homestead) : Part of a blind Cabernet Sauvignon tasting (8 bottles) with some family members. Wine #8. Greeted with a mouthful of cocoa oaky-ness and little bit of tannic bite. To me, this seemed like it was a large production higher-end grocery store/Costco kind of Napa Cab due to this flavor profile that many non-wine-geek consumers are accustomed to. When you taste enough of these, you recognize the "formula". It's a pleasing and very "safe" …

Mondavi smakk á Konsúlat hóteli (Konsúlat hótel, Hafnarstræti 17-19) : Meðaldökkur litur. Léttur ilmur. Sólber, mynta, kryddjurtir (garrigue). Eftir smá tíma komu svo þyngri tónar fram: Súkkulaði, tóbak og leður. Mjög flottur ilmur. Þegar smakkað var á víninu þá voru þarna talsverð tannín. Einnig mikil sýra ásamt ferskum berjatónum og kryddjurtum. Þægilegt vín sem gæti örugglega batnað með geymslu í 2-4 ár.

So I bought a couple of these remembering that one magic—it was magical—bottle I had way back when. I think the vintage was some year in the mid to late 90’s. Anyway, I PNP this bottle and didn’t love it on night one. It seemed to have the right ingredients but they weren’t working together, even though I let it air out in the glass as much as possible. Day 2, after gassing and refrigerating, it came around. Still not …

Butter on the nose along with oak, vanilla, and some strong black fruits aromas. Taste of vanilla, oak, green pepper, and underripe fruits, the total opposite of the strong black fruit aromas, maybe the bottle was off?

Deep purple wine. After a 3 hour decant, it has notes of blackberry, pencil lead and low notes of vanilla on the nose. Flavor notes of jammy blackberry, black cherry. Medium high acidity with a medium tannic character with a slight astringency. Body is medium.

Nice deep purple. Needs more time despite decanting for over an hour. No strong oaky notes, little bit of tobacco and chocolate no vanilla aromas though. Very young on the nose, smells like red fruit such as ripe strawberry and cranberry. On the pallet black fruit; blackberry and black currant. Medium high acidity and relatively short finish. Would definitely recommend storing it for at least 3 more years
