Root Day - On the pop and pour - Dark lemon in the glass. Nose is pineapple, sweet lemon, sea spray and a bit of caramel. On the palate it’s rich and smooth with some immediate flavours of baked apple like you get with developed Chardonnay but then it settles into a back palate of saline, citrus, mineral and spice. The acidity is still medium plus and it brightens up the flavours once the baked apple is gone. There’s a …

Root day - pale gold core with a fairly wide watery edge. Cellar temp as it is literally a pop and pour - Nose of ripe pineapple, white flowers (a light version of an Easter Lily), clover honey, light spice and some sweet cooking herbs. On the palate it’s full bodied with ripe tropical fruit - more mango/guava than pineapple, along with some medium acidity, white pepper (still there) and just a touch of Golden Delicious apple. The finish is …

Golden in colour but other than some bruised apple notes is giving up nothing to age. Spice, a touch of lime and the bruised apple in the nose; mouth filling with ripe bright apple, some bruised apple, hazelnuts and white pepper on the palate and finish. Still going strong...

Well made with excellent balance but it just wasn't showing the spice I normally get with this wine - a little muted this time out. Perhaps in an awkward stage? Still mineral and white pepper on the nose and palate with good citrus elements and a medium length finish. Was in the company of pretty great wines though - may have just paled a bit due to that.

Clear pale straw core of moderate+ intensity - youthful. Absolutely classic clean nose of white pepper, mineral and grapefruit. Moderate- body, moderate acid and alcohol. Excellent (although light at this point in it's evolution) mouthfeel. Dry, crisp, clean, mineral and spice driven flavours. Long finish already but there is so much more to come. The balance on this wine is superb. Drink now or cellar for 10+ years. Like a top quality Riesling, this wine really shows it's 'sense of …

June 2009 Michael Skurnik Wine Event, New York (Tribeca Grill, NY) : Light lemon color. Intense nose of bubblegum and plaster. Interesting and odd. Falls off a bit on the finish.
