We’ve cellared this well and it’s shining at 15yrs with a lot in the tank. Tannins were fully integrated, fruit still vibrant, no browning on the meniscus, and sporting a marathon finish. They wouldn’t let me taste when I tried to visit, so this will be my last, but I still tip my cap.

Superbe Barolo.

Virtual tasting with #1 or #2. Decanted 90 min (slow to get rolling) and tasted over 3-4 hours. Gorgeous nose of cassis, plum, rose petals, soft leather. Fruit and floral notes really popped early, with licorice and chocolate developing over the next couple hours. Lots of body, plenty of fruit, lovely balance. Succulent mouthfeel with grippy tannins. Medium finish. Drink or hold, certainly in its window now.

part of a two bottle virtual tasting in an exchange with uncle victor, this was tasted double blind. intoxicating nose... red currant, cherry, rose-like florals, tilled soil, anise. on the palate, the tannin and acidity stood out (which casted doubt on its age while trying to guess varietal and vintage), given the sanguine colour in the glass. with the cheese and charcuterie, this was outstanding. very lifted with bright red fruits, leather, and some pleasant herbal notes that lingered on …

Red fruit and Licorice with well integrated tannins and approachable now as a modern Barolo should be. Not as austere as a traditional Barolo and with a long, alcoholic finish. Good but missing the “wow what hit me” factor.

Mer transparent enn for to år siden.

drank without decanting. Pleasantly surprised as I had not had this previously. Classic Barolo that seemed to be in a good place. The tannins were there but had rounded out nicely and integrated with the medium body and red fruit notes of cherry cola. Truly enjoyable and the bottle was a hit at the table.

Seems unfortunate the varying opinions. I found the wine exceptional good and the owner of our 'go to' Italian restaurant said...I don't like Barolo but this is a very good wine. So there you have it. Who knows. I can't remember specific notes but it was stylish, classic with modern nuances. Just a very good wine. Sorry that isn't more. I received a bottle for secret santa who turned me on to the wine and I will pursue more.

Good. Classic build, aromas and flavors, with a bright cord of acids helping to produce some pleasant citrus notes. A capable, enjoyable table wine that's not trying to be anything more than it is - it captures the vintage's best characteristics. A consistently good value. Complex nose, strong tannins that needs a few hours of air to soften. It opens up with great complexity on the palate and a very long, exiting aftertaste. A very well produced wine from the great 2010 vintage.

Classic Barolo nose, but the palate is a mass of unyielding, bitter tannin. There's some dark fruit underneath it all, but the tannins overwhelm everything else. Not sure if a prolonged nap in the cellar will help, but I guess I'll find out with my remaining bottles... because it's not enjoyable to drink now.

MNB: Grab Bag (Home (Noe st)) : (blind) Medium minus ruby to a garnet rim. Savory, developed nose with slight brett hints of sweet oak, and hints of oxidation. Dry, medium plus bodied, high alcohol (14%), high tannins, high acid. Hints of new oak - faint vanilla and spice on the palate. Slight wet cardboard... Corked Brunello or Barolo/Barbaresco. Due to hints of new oak and the overall heftiness of wine, I'm guessing this is a Brunello di Montalcino (regular, …

Decanted for around 45 mins. Dark ruby color. Nose of black cherry, eucalyptus, methol and some sweet spices. A touch of heat coming through on the nose as well. Red fruit driven on the palate with some spiced fruitcake type flavors. Medium+ to high acid, medium tannins with a round and smooth mouthfeel and moderate finish. The wine suffered a tad from being served at room as opposed to cellar temperature but otherwise, very nice barolo.

Dark color. Blueberry nose with, surprisingly simple. On the palate blueberries, blackcurrant and other deep, soft fruits with licorice. Very strong tannins and an opulent, extracted style. Needs more years to develop but is still a disappointment. Lacks any kind of elegancy.

An excellent wine to enjoy with a fine meal. This will undoubtedly improve with age. The nose provides ample floral, rustic and savoury elements, as well as a touch of classic Nebbiolo fruit. At present the taste is a bit too tannic and firm, however, the finish is excellent and the alcohol is pleasantly subdued. Drank with my brother and his wife who prefer up front fruit in a classic Cali Cab style wine, but this wine grew on them …

Beautiful classic Barolo roses and tar nose immediately upon opening, but the palate was a mass of fierce tannins. Revisited it 24 hours later and the tannins had resolved enough to reveal a very good traditional base Barolo. Big rose and tar nose and palate. Good balance between the fruit, acidity and tannins. I think this will age well.

A Tasting of Wines From Italy (Roy Thompson Hall, Toronto, ON) : Another really nice effort from Settimo, again leaning quite traditional. Aromatics run deeper than the Langhe Nebbiolo. Nose of tar, florals, dark cherry, red licorice (in a good way), sweat, tea leaves and even a hint of leather. So beautiful and primary, just waiting to unfurl. The palate is a wall of massive tannin. Give this some time to improve the mouthfeel. Finish is medium plus. Rating this …
