Brown/ red colour Smells old, mushroom, a bit musty, some tobacco Very mellow and to be honest a little too old on the palate but it's not finished. Not by a long way. There's sweet fruit and spices. Quite delicate but plenty of life. If you like an old Bordeaux, you'll like this. 16.5/20

From a pristine bottle, held since release in perfect conditions. The cork has just a touch of staining, around 1/4 of the way up, otherwise perfect. This pours medium ruby in the glass, opaque at the core. The nose is classic cabernet showing black currant, blackberry, ripe plum, green tobacco leaf, leather, and gravel. The palate enters on sweet and juicy dark fruit. The mid-palate is gravelly with medium tannin and medium acid. The finish closes nicely on the plummy …

Genka Wine Fair (Divani Hotel) : 1hr decant, 13.50%, late harvest (October), rainy vintage but not all that bad, 18 months in Nevers new oak -/- Very tasty, spicy, paprika notes, smoked notes, cured meat, whole spice, still firm oak frame In the palate, the wine shows the same flavour profile, the tannins are there, quite vibrant, bold even, smoked notes, thick oak profile, tight (and a bit astringent) tannins, spice frame, peppery finish. The wine stayd impressively stable throughout …

Perfect cork in a sense: only 2 mm saturated and was extracted in one piece without any effort. Also: the cork reeked of TCA as I removed the foil. After thoroughly cleaning it and attracting the cork, the mouth of the btl still reeked terribly much. 🦨 Thinking that the wine was probably gone, I sucked some with a straw. Lo and behold! The wine was pristine! So I taped up the inside and outside of the mouth with Gorilla …

Estelar!! 90 mins on decanter, great quality bottle, long, long black cherry finish,a 24 year old wine starting to develop thiertiary notes of saddle & pencil shavings, round integrated tannins, incredible w/food pairings @ Maximo Bistrot for Iñaki’s graduation celeb. 3 hrs latter I can still enjoy the aftertaste. Just a bit sad that I don’t have more of this😞

Brune kanter. Frisk munn, litt magrere i munn, flott struktur, sopp, Elegant, komplekst, ikke like rent som forrige Gevrey. Lekker dybde. Stålmineraler, veldig mye struktur. Kirsebær og paprika. Sopp og skogbunn kombinert med frukt. Deilig balanse. Ingen gjettet at dette var en spanjol. 94-95 Torres Gran Coronas, Mas la plana, Gran reserva. 1985. Kjøpt i 1996

Basically, this bottle was over. Little bit dusty, ferrous, cigar box, drying. The acidity rises quickly. Only 12% and it is very light indeed. It says on the bottle that it was a hot vintage. It really wasn’t showing much. I put it into the little Tondonia glass to concentrate it.

On goûte moins l'arôme d'olives.

Deep aromas of black currants, a touch of green bell peppers and cedar. The palate echoes the nose adding soft tannins structured by acidity. Perfect to drink now and will keep at least another 5 years.

RQP **1/2

After nearly 20 years in the bottle this wine is drinking very good. Medium body, light amber at the edges, good nose with berries and fruit. Wine has held up exceeding well, still good for 5-8 years in the cellar. Enjoy with a good steak.

Deep garnet in color with slight bricking edges. Nose of crushed dark berries and hint of leather. Tastes of black currants, blue berries, moca, and a pleasant earthiness. Supple and integrated tannins. Well balanced and not showing its age. Not likely to improve, but should drink well for 3-5 years.

Weekly tasting group #149; Simply Red (A mixed set) (@ CvR) : In the bouquet impressions of coffee, chocolate, iron and blood. On the palate jammy ripe fruits, some leather and autumn impressions, beautiful acidity and soft tannin. The wine is still beautiful, but in the last stage of its mature life. My suggestion would be to drink it between now and 2016.

The nose is clean, medium intensity, a quite different character than the previous vintages, tobacco with a more earthy, blackcurrant and black berry with spicy notes, incense?, not too typical I dare say wtih jammy notes, cigar box, developing with a fine mixture of youth and age there. Miguel Torres Masterclass and Mas La Plana Mini Vertical (Grande Bretagne Hotel, Athens, Greece) : This was the star of the vertical to most. Medium to dark garnet. Complex and refined nose, herbal, etheral and quite Bordeaux-like with smoke, cassis, mint, fennel and cumin. Medium-bodied with firm tannins, youthful and vibrant fruit, balanced and long. Still a long way to go.

Torres Tasting (Grande Bretagne Hotel, Athens) : Clear, evolved brick red color. Clean, medium intensity, more juicy with black fruits, tobacco leaves, sweet spices, currants and berries, sweet oak, developed. The wine is dry, medium body, medium intensity, medium acidity, medium alcohol, medium tannins, balaned, coffee, currant, berries, bell pepper, tobacco, mocca, medium finish. Outstanding quality of course but there was something lacking in it, premium price, drinking now. Lucky enough that I didn't get a flawed bottle...

Bouteille et bouchon en parfaite condition. Non carafé. High fill.

Mas La Plana Tasting with Miguel Torres (Jaleo - Washington, DC) : A rich ruby-purple color. Darker and younger on the nose, with plum, black cherry, mocha, earth and pepper. Over the course of the evening the aromas opened up more and more to show earthy and spicy notes. Firm tannins combine with medium acid (noticeably less acid than the previous two vintages). This wine is more about purity of fruit, with its plum sauce and fig paste approach, backed …

Since these are his birthday wines, we cracked the first bottle of this Mas La Planas'87 on his 21st birthday. We celebrated with Arlyne and Roe, Nancy, Geoff and his dear friend and young wine enthusiast, Zak. This bottle had a strong, leathery, dry almost stinging nose. I feared for its life. the the taste shocked all with its rich fruit, Cab sweetness and long length. I'm celebrating Geoff again with this wine tonight. I'm alone so that I can …

Still very dark ruby color. Very earthy, almost Bordeaux-like nose minus the barnyard. Nose of sage, oak, almost ethereal. The texture is soft and silky - just glides effortlessly. Flavors of black currant, red berries, vanilla, oak. Very mild tannins. Great stuff and well worth the wait. Drink now.
