Mid red colour with slight orange around the rim. Tangy, spicy nose of Pinot fruit. Hint of pooey aged burg. Really lovely spicy forest fruits nose. Long juicy spicy sweet red cherry fruit. Nicely structured and layered. Sous bois and start of a peacocks tail. Bright lifted fruit. Wild herbs, musk, really expressive. Sweet, perfumed, vibrant and with stunning purity. So may perfumes all packed in. Like a rose bud that’s closed in on itself and opens in your mouth. …

Raspberry fruit and savoury flavours. Colour certainly shows age but still limpid and “fresh”. Intense on tasting with acceptable fruit. Reasonable fruit but fading a bit towards oak driven textures,

A tertiary flavor lover's dream come true. Dust, dried mushrooms, black truffle, dried mint, barnyard, blue cheese and the faintest hint of ripe black cherries on the nose. Musty and almost completely tertiary; but it's cool how the hint of fruit smells so fresh. Medium + intensity of aromas. The palate adds preserved raspberries and black licorice and is overall more fruit-driven than the nose, though at 29, the fruit has turned cooked/preserved. Medium + intensity of flavors. Medium body …

Opened for c90 mins before drinking. This is a lovely balanced Burgundy. Got even better as the evening progressed. Good long finish

Pale ruby appearance. Black cherry, redcurrant, iron, mixed spice. Bright acidity with a good length of finish. Decent wall of tannins. A little chunky on the palate. This feels unforgiving and structured today. Better to revisit after several years of cellaring.

Really nice nose dominated by darker, brambly fruit. Really embryonic on the palate. Dark fruit framed by a bit of oak, brooding, with tons of structure. Really impressed by how well-balanced this is given the hot year. Will be on the lookout for this producer

Had at a K&L tasting event. Pale Ruby in color. On the nose: lots of fruits, strawberries and cherries. On the palate: Oak hits you first, then you settle into fruits of dark cherries. Long finish

Grand Burgundy (K&L Wine Merchant - San Francisco) : Fresh halved plums with gentle orange flesh, a subtle touch of the old Bazooka chewing gums (the pink, rectangular gums wrapped in wax paper). You’re also place near a big open pond with giant pebbles all around. A pleasurable surge of intense and softly ripe red fruits, providing good freshness and energy. The swift fruits continue on the mid palate, hitching a ride on river minerals. The finish shows a hint …

A big bruiser of a Gevrey. Lots of dark red fruit with significant oak treatment. After 45 minutes the wine calmed down and became a bit more layered. Good, not great.

This is the 6th bottle from a case and has been performing admirably. There is an upfront, silky fruitiness to the wine followed by a woodsy, mineral grip that I associate with this vineyard high on the Combe by the forest. It's all framed fine tannins and I really like the juicy kick of fruit on the finish.

OK, this was from the same lot and evidently the same OCB as the last bottle but here the cork was perfect. [shrug] Delicious and maybe a wee bit fresher but that could just be my mind after seeing the cork. So happy these wines are pretty well ignored.

I love this vineyard and this producer. Yes, they are made in a fruitier style, but the preponderance of old "Pinot Fin" clones and the situation of this vineyard at the top of the Coombe really resonates with me. Like always, it's saline, sappy and rich, with dark fruit, minerals and maybe a hint of black licorice. There is a floral topnote and a bit of an earthy, leathery bottom note but the prevailing driver is the core of fruit. …

Disappointed. Lacked fruit. Coarse tannins, bitter aftertaste. There is some sweet fruit at start of palate and nose but then things go rustic. What will it do now?

Full red, deep fruit. Works great with a meal. Nice nose, lovely palate with fruit, herb notes. Works less well alone as the acidity and structure become evident. Nice bottle.

My son's 23rd BD celebration. Had not purchased this bottle on release. Bought from a major wine shop in DC probably in the mid 2000's so can't validate the provenance. Cork almost broke in pieces but was able to recover it whole. Tons of sediment after standing up for a week. Very brick meniscus with a rose center mass. Reduction at first, mild mercaptans odor mostly blew off after an hour but lingered somewhat. Fruit improved commensurately. A bit thin …

Significantly better than the previous bottles opened a few years ago. Solid red. Tannins are light, but there's good acidity and a solid spice component. This is what the 1996s are supposed to be. For good bottles, years of life left, but drinking extremely well right now.

Appearance is murky; strawberry, rhubarb, sous bois; smooth, mellowed, an elegance but too dusty, tart, acidic, not much fruit; clearly past prime Later: nose of greater warmth, rotted, yet enticing; palate hot yet mildly bitter

1996 red burgundies (Tunstall) : Colour is red with only very slight browning. Intense nose of orange peel, bramble and raspberry. Drinking nicely (again!), some persistence in the mouth. Some tannins remains. Seems like this is at the early part of whatever plateau it is now on.

Well passed its prime but fun nonetheless. A very tertiary nose offering animal hide, mushroom, dried cherry and raspberry. Almost like an old Crozes at times. Palate was quite thin and still very high in acidity. Pair with food.

Tasting 2012 Geantet-Pansiots at the Domaine; 1/9/2015-1/10/2015 : Vincent described this wine as being from 'fabulous terroir' because it lies due South and he likes the influence of the Combe. He said it is an earlier picking vineyard. Nose slightly reticent with plummy fruits and raspberries. Brambly, sous bois flavours with the fruit less evident at this stage. Good matière and salinity on the finish. A cooler profile with good acidity. An intellectual wine with potential to develop further interest …

Tasted at the June 2012 IWFSC dinner. Served with Pheasant Mousse in zucchini flower with chanterelles and smoked lardons. Purchased on release. Reddish-brown in color with a nose of earth and cherry. The palate is primarily tart/bing cherry with a good amount of acidity. The wine is not as good as the vintage. It is best with food, and the smoke and fat from the dish balanced the acidity extremely well.

Burg BYO at Blu (Blu, Shangri-La, Singapore) : A pretty good wine, but rather disappointing given its vintage, especially since it was very much outperformed by a 2001 bottling that was served alongside. This seemed to have come from different terroir altogether. I liked the nose here - you got very Gevrey notes of slight dried red cherries and berries again, along with a touch of earth at the edges. However, beyond that, there was very meaty, almost leathery note …

Starts out with sour cherries which add weight and sweeten with a little time. There seems to be added acid here...the acid is quite noticeable. The wine is mature and there's good minerality and underbrush. It's straightforward and not too complex but it has some weight and is pleasant with food.
