Slightly on the wrong side of mature, but still pleasurable. After about 30 min, this went from lovely earthy potpourri to just plain over the hill. But that first glass was quite nice.

This has improved a lot or my previous impressions were wrong. Some floral smells, violet, anise, brambly undergrowth. Plum, blackcurrant, cedar. Medium bodied, good acid. Still the ashy aftertaste. Dry dusty tannin. Good.

Lean blackcurrant and cedar. Wood ash in the mouth, unpleasant immediately after opening. I cooled it down and left it in a decanter for a while and it showed more fruit and some good savoury spice notes. Good acid, fresh. Put most favourably it's a serious and savoury bordeaux. I enjoyed it with cold rare steak but it wouldn't be much fun without food.

This 15 years old bottle is still alive and may have 5 years ahead. I had it paired with Kimberly and was enjoyable.

Bottle post-coravin, showing some oxidation, overipe berries, palate seems a bit flat. Don't think this is showing well.

A swathe of European 2003s (Chicago, IL) : Rive droite rôtie? Roasted fruit, roasted oak. Throw in some roasting from the alcoholic burn too. In the words of Lana Kane, from the animated show Archer, "Nooooooooooooope."

This never really came together over a 2 hr period poured from a decanter. My best description is a light to medium bodied wine that was a bit over extracted with some light tar notes and some sharp red fruit. Not hot or overripe like many 03's, just bland.

Sporting a new label, which history buffs may be interested to know is a redesign of their label from the 1920s, the medium-bodied, floral, red berry-dominated wine is on the fresh, smooth, easy drinking side. 86-88 Pts

Ripe, rich, good concentration, at its peak I believe. Currant, plum, dark cherry flavors, not overripe like some of the 03's.

Nondescript, rather hot, but nice, unobjectionable. Probably should drink up.

Deep garnet. Nose shy initially-decant!-over time opened to tar, mocha, chocolate with a licorice hint. Taste was similar, more espresso with chocolate. Very young. Put a plus after the rating.

Solid St Emilion. Shows plums more than cassis. Needs some time to open up. Doesn't show too much of the 03 heat. Still some tannins and acidity in the mouth. Will probably develop a little more over the next few years.

Tour de Bordeaux; Next stop: St. Emilion @ David's (Netherlands) : Black and red fruit, sandalwood, licorice, autumn leaves, tobacco. Has a classic and cool feel, good length, and some chalky, recalcitrant tannines, which gives it a nod to the Left Bank. Very charming and interesting. 17.5/50

Tasted blind - Opened and served right away. Ruby red with a slight brownish tinge at the edge. Earthy notes with dark fruits and a ton of chocolate. A good amount of tannin and acidity with a medium body and medium length finish. Dries out the mouth quite a bit. Enjoyable now but I think this will improve with 2-3 more years. Very good. 89+

Perfect ruby. Upon opening, the nose is a bit astringent, with some plummy fruit character. By the end of an hour of airtime, this is showing great dark fruit, coffee and some herbal character. Mid weight, and still a touch tannic, but not overly so. Some minerality on the medium length finish. This is drinking well now with some air, and will likely only get better for a few years. Day two update: A little more of an herbal profile …
