Drinking beautifully, with vibrant acidity, bold fruit, and minerally, earthy overtones piled onto a well structured spine of mature tannin. Just lovely, but sadly my last bottle. Drink now and over the next few years.

Drinking very well right now, though still showing quite a bit of youthful structure and fruit. One bottle left, I'd recommend waiting another two years before opening it.

Two and a half hour decant, this threw off a fair amount of sediment but was dark in the glass with a slightly lighter purple rim. The nose has strong elements of caramel, dark fruit, marshmallow and smoke. The palate, even after a multi hour decant, still has both angular acidity and structured tannins, with dark fruit dominating along with cloves and anise. Full bodied in style with a big mouthfeel and a long finish, this can certainly age longer …

Bought a case of this, now down to 2 bottles. This is still young. Rough edges are gone, but tannins still strong. Should have years left. Nice balance. May want to decant as a lot of fine sediment.

Outstanding juice. I was expecting it to be pretty tough, so I paired it with a chicken in ancho cream sauce, and that worked out really well, with the cream helping to soften the tannins, while the fruit concentration in the wine had no problem standing up to the gentle piquancy of the ancho chile. The wine is still in the very early stages of maturity and should easily handle another 5 years of cellaring.

Last bottle. :-( Ruby red colour with light purple. Surprisingly, no sign of brown yet. Really good structure. pleasant nose, leather and licorice. Long finish. Wish I had more.

It took a long time to come around, but this wine has finally softened up, opened up, and is now terrific. Should drink well for years.

Bafflingly youthful colour - dark, almost blue, no bricking at all in spite of its 13 years. Chocolate and clove and mace and smoked bacon fat and a touch of roasted coffee beans. Powerfully tannic - an intense puckering on the tongue. What was this beast like a decade ago? Core aromas are reminiscent of great Grenache (CdP and Priorat): garrigue, cocoa, liquorice, carob, molasses, treacle - untypical of Tempranillo, but this is what Toro does to the grape... Impressive …

I usually find Toro wines too be a bit thick for my palate -- is it really hot there? -- and as a youngster this wine hit that profile. Now it has obtained some balance, but still a B. if you love thick wines, you'll give it a B for thinning out.

YUm...still quite dark and rich...popped and poured with friends in a restaurant and gone before you know it...

This wine was terrific. Nicely mature with the tannin resolved but still a ton or rich, sweet fruit and classic smoke. This was popped and poured and performed right out of the gate. The color is still quite dark and I suppose will fade eventually.

4 hour decant. Lots of vanilla oak on the nose. Still very tannic with lots of acidity. Some dark fruit and licorice hidden beneath. Still seems young.

18 wines on a Saturday afternoon : Purple/ruby in color. The nose is very unique with cinammon, spice (allspice?) and cherries. A bit thin at first but with air it builds out. Young and very tannic.

Nice full blown nose of cedar, what I associate with Tempranillo. On the palate a modern rendition, a good bit of fruit but well made if somewhat one-dimensional.

Drank this with a roast chicken and some Manchego. Very nice wine, which was deep in color and flavor, with good balance. I opened it about an hour before drinking. I agree with others that this wine has a while to go, but is very good now.

Full opaque black/purple color. Bright clean nose of black raspberry and blueberry wit hjust a touch of heat. Big dusty black fruit with coffee notes and a full round tannin on the finish. Still quite young and tight.

Very dark and concentrated. Really too young but there is a ton here and this will be a delight to watch age. So much younger than the 98's bought in the plcb

Black as night. Initially restrained nose, palate of dark fruits, anise, and a wall of drying tannins. Into the decanter it went, and a couple of hours later, the nose exploded with crushed blackberries and raspberries, holiday spices, cocoa, espresso, leather. Effusively complex and toothstainingly dense, with crushed berries, spices, leather, espresso, and, although more approachable than when first opened, still a load of tannins on the delicious finish. What a wine to savor and contemplate as it reveals its …

Not as good as previous bottles, may be going thru a dumb phase. Nice nose but restrained from memories of past bottles. Tannins showed strong and the fruit weak. Bad bottle? OK wine but not very good QPR right now.

($42) Dinner with Peter Spann: 100% Tinto de Toro (tempranillo). 14% alcohol. Good lord! This is a truly massive wine. When people talk about dry extract, this is what I will think of from here forward. Porty nose with black fruits. Sweet attack with lots of blackberry fruit. Fascinating mouthfeel that gives the impression of drinking a semi-moist sweet powder. Crushed and dried blackberries. Dang this is intense. The next day it was little changed, but maybe a bit fruitier. …
