Better than a few months ago. Much less dusty, tannins more integrated, and great balance. Enjoyed in Ojai at Nocciola with the family.

Shows the violets and roses some still on the nose. Edges smoothed out and integrated grape tannins with noce red cherry fruit and tobacco and leather. Always has great acidity so this is a wonderful wine with fatty meats and rich sauces. Drink now or in 10 years as is your preference.

In stellar conditions - bought on auction with damaged labes.... One guy once told me that you dont drink labes... Thats true The wine showed little sign of age, No brick colered rim. Tannins was stil there - not rough Tannins, but not super smooth silky Tannins either. A great glass along side tbone steaks in a spanish restaurant. The wine just gave and gave... Hope i had more....

Klassisk, rustikk stil. Fortsatt ganske barsk og syrlig, denne holder mye lengre.

This is a glass from a bottle I opened six days ago (my last note). I liked it then, but this is still drinking very well after spending the intervening period recorked and refrigerated. Probably not a “scientific” observation, but I think if you have this in your cellar, a pretty good indication that this wine still has a lot of time in front of it.

My last note on this wine was over a year ago. And this is really in the zone tonight at 20+ years of age. In looking at my previous notes, I did comment on some bottle variation, but not tonight - this is quintessential Nebbiolo. Sweet & sour cherry fruit, good acidity and this really spreads out on your palate. Unfortunately I only have a few bottles left of this, but off tonight's bottle it should still be rendering pleasure …

Very classic barbaresco with nuance and complexity. Decanted for 1 hour then out back in bottle. Very rustic on the nose with leather, dark dried fruit, tobacco leaf, and wet earthy forest floor. Tannins grip at first but then ease up - probably still a little too grippy. Not sure if that would be solved with more age or more time decanting. Acidity is well balanced which is why I think the tannins weren’t as gnarly. This is a wine …

Election night wine at Maison Dakota. Tasted blind. Drank in Grassl Cru. Guessed as 2004 Nebbiolo. More evolved than the Rabaja 2004 and probably will not have as much longevity. Appearance is clear, medium intensity, ruby with wide garnet rim. Legs. Nose medium+ intensity, with aromas of mild VA, sous bois tertiary earth, tea leaves, dark red plum, dark red cherries. Developed. On the palate, dry, medium+ acidity, medium+ alcohol (14%), resolved tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours …

Dark colour for a Barbaresco this age. The wine is an ostensive definition of harmony in a Nebbiolo. There is nothing that sticks out, even though the structure is unmistakably Nebbiolo. Harmony throughout, and a truly excellent wine. Now I regret not having bought newer vintages, but let's not forget that not all of the wines - even bottles - turn out as well as this. I had a bottle of this earlier in the year (not mine), and that …

Solid Barby. Give it some air if possible. Still young and could use some more bottle time. Fairly primary still but with some air starting to get those notes of red and dark fruit, spice, soil and some anise. Tannins are softerning there is good acidity here. Doesnt have the depth of other producer nor does it come with the price.

PnP and drank throughout the day. On the nose - dried fruit, bitter herbs, and slightly musty. On the palate - plum, dried herb, leather. Nice molasses-like sweetness. Soft, smooth tannins; however the body felt out of balance.

Tonight’s bottle restores my faith in this wine; the previous bottle showed aged/raisined fruit, but tonight we are back on the beam. With all due respect to the much lauded 2006, this has long been my favorite Produttori normale, and both my wife and I really enjoyed this paired up with fresh bread and cheese, not to mention a little pesto from Claudio’s 🍷👍

Opened several hours early; double-decanted for sediment about an hour before tasting. Attractive dried floral nose with some mature notes of beef bouillon and a hint of soy. Really lovely medium plus bodied palate with flavors that follow the nose. Easily the star of our lineup today. This sat in a wide bodied glass for several hours and became more mature tasting yet stern over time, so take care not to over-decant unless you have some animal fat on your …

No great wines, just great bottles, right? I'm drinking this with the 2010 tonight - I had this exact pairing last year and had a clear preference for this wine (and even remarked in my previous note about the wine's continued ability to age), but tonight this bottle has a prune note on the nose that is distracting. Not to the point of maderization, but if this was your only bottle, a worrisome development. It's actually pretty delicious on the …

The fruit is sourced from the Asili vineyard. Released only after a minimum of four years of aging. Bottle #4,911 of total 10,000 bottles. Lot number L8.158. 14% alcohol. Deep, luminous and moderately translucent cherry-red color. The nose feels open, fragrant and very slightly funky with aromas of ripe cherries and pipe tobacco, some wizened dark berries, a little bit of strawberry, light fragrant aromas of orange rind, somewhat evolved hints of raisiny fruit and balsamic VA, a touch of …

What a tremendous bottle of wine! All about the minerals now. Some tar flavors, perhaps some floral, but that might just be the power of suggestion in looking at the label. Very crisp with a long finish. It took about 3 hours to open up.

Burgers and Nebbs vol.II (My place, Portland OR) : The nose is elegant and red-fruited with tones of strawberries, rose petals, red cherries, sour red fruits, licorice, roasted herbs, leather notes, spices, tobacco leaf, and a touch of tar. The Medium/full bodied feel is balanced with youthful, but silky, high tannins and crisp, high acidity. The structure still has a bit of youth, though it has clearly pulled back over time. Red fruits, rose petals & tar on the nose. Good acidity on the palate, tart red fruit - very likable, and similar in terms of aging profile with my previous note in April, '21. If you have this in the cellar and haven't tried it recently, do yourself a favor and check out a bottle.

Perfect mature Nebbiolo color. The nose shows perfumed aromas of dark red fruits, flowers, tobacco, tar, cigarbox and a hint of minerals. This is medium full bodied on the palate with excellent concentration and very good class. The long finish features resounding notes of spice, tobacco and minerals. This was a superb wine that featured a lot of class and sophistication. Completely different from a bottle I had 18 months ago.

Opened 8 hours before serving. Deep ruby. The most rose petal I've smelled in a Nebbiolo in quite some time along with tar and harsher green notes. The perfume is developed and intoxicating. Medium weight, quite spectacular texture that is drenched with soil. Ripe black fruit, some herbs, a citric twist, and ripe, round tannins. Powerful, refined, and majestic. I'd imagine it's poised for another decade of enjoyment.

Decanted for 2 hours before serving. Even red color. Explosive aromatically-some early funk that blew off followed by flowers, cherry, menthol, and an enlivening amount of VA. Exquisite elegant weight and texture. Gentle, pure red fruit with a lick of citrus peel, fine acidity, and soil. The longer it sat out, the more seductive it became. I could envision further improvement over the next 2 to 5 years.

Impromptu night with the coravin. This has developed nicely over the years. It has shed its tannic clout and has turned into a mellow wine of contemplation. Starts to get a browny rim although retaining a certain amount of freshness thanks to nice acidity. All components have created a cohesion one could only hope for. Great stuff to accompany food with earthy flavours such as a mushroom risotto or to savour on its own by the fireside.
