MN Valley Fine Wine Tasting Meetup "Pairings" (Minneapolis, MN) : Well a member of the club asked Total Wine for a recommendation and that is never a good thing. My first wine disrupted in 2026 and this is a top 10 worst wine of the year candidate. Artificial sweetener, dirt and smoke. Not much going on here other that it is a very difficult wine to drink. First wine to be disrupted this year on my site: https://winedisruptors.com/wines-disrupted/

Total Wine: Distinguished Reds Tasting Event (Total Wine, McLean VA) : At a Total Wine tasting event. This is a TW private label from the folks at Caymus. After the Vennstone Reserve Pinot completely assaulted my fragile palate and sense of well-being, I was expecting the worst. This wasn't so bad. Vanilla on the nose and palate, soft, easy structure, slight residual sugar fer shure. Low tannin for a Cabernet, limited acidity made it a little soupy. But a tiny …

For me, it’s a bit too much of a fruit bomb.

I have to admit I was not expecting much from this wine. I was pleasantly surprised. It’s fruity, but not overly sweet. There is a peppery flavor blended in with the fruit giving it an interesting flavor of dark, gummy fruits (raisins?) with some peppery texture to it. There’s no alcohol flavor which is nice. It’s not over performing for the price, but I would say it’s a nice wine that I’d happily have again.

Buy again! Not too dry and not as sweet las some blends. Great fruit flavor—cherry, plum. Pd $20 at Total Wine in Mission Valley/San Diego.

We liked Lot 5 way more than Lot 3... a nice red at a fair price.

Not bad, but seems to be fading... current LOT 3 bottle was not great. 11/5/24 Confirmed: Lot 3 is not nearly as good as Lot 1... 87-88

I agree with most of the other reviewers of this wine: a little jammy, sort of bringing in the Central Coast. But I also agree that for $22, it's a great mid-week wine. Plenty of body/structure. Someone wrote that it'd be great with pizza - it would, it has that much flavor. And srsly, if you're having wine with pizza... why bust the bank on the wine? Chow down and enjoy!

Solid blend. Not overly manipulated tasting. Big bold fruit on nose and palate. Mid tannin, low acid. A great everyday for &22.

Not a big blend guy but the Wagner Family knows how to get it done. Great deep garnet color with a fairly big nose. Lots of dark berries & a bit of toast in there. Very smooth drinkable wine with lots of flavor. Solid choice in this price ranger.

Better than expected. .

Chocolate covered cherries with notes of Fritos Corn Chips. First taste is earthy burnt wood which dissipates quickly leaving a smooth finish. Low tannins. This is a different wine that is unique enough to enjoy with pizza or steak.

It was really good. Jami especially liked it. Pretty sure this vineyard’s Pinot noir was one that jami really liked too but I didn’t get to taste

Robust deep red color with scents of blackberry and black cherry. The first tases are of black fruit, cherries and cassis followed by a pleasant oak with balanced alcohol finish. Tannins were very mild and although the wine was fruit foward it wasn't overly sweet. A really nice wine for the $22 price. Simply put, it doesn't try to be anything other than what it is - a good bottle of wine at a good price point.

Baby Caymus… nose is a touch sweeter and fruit more present throughout, but there are still hints of cocoa, vanilla, and a touch of spice. I feel like this is representative of other Paso cabs I’ve tasted with some added caymus sweetness and flair. Not a bad value pick.

Was a little worried after reading some of the other reviews. Decanted for 30 minutes and had it w NY strip and brussel sprouts. I think it's a fine choice for 30 bucks. Will probably add more of it, drink some and hold on to some to see how it matures

Upon opening jucy fruit with a strong cough syrup finish. Very undrinkable. Decanted for an hour and the cough syrup faded but was unbalanced, synthetic and not enjoyable. Past vintages have been enjoyable so maybe 1858 cheaper out or this is just an off vintage.

Fruit bomb. Smells and tastes like Caymus is trying to manufacture the characteristics of great California cabs on the cheap. Not impressed.

I don't think the poor ratings warrant here as although this was nothing spectacular, it certainly had some good traits as well. A little funky on the nose but mellowed out quickly. A bit sweet for this type of cabernet but it did have some cherry, and various berry notes while its smooth non tannic finish was ok it didn't have the character to improve. Not bad just nothing special.

The 2018 vintage taster like grape juice or sangria. Too sweet, too much fruit, no depth, lacks body. Was a big fan of previous vintages but this is a huge flop.

What a mess. If you were to combine welches grape juice, kerosene and dandelions you still wouldn't have this mess. I have never dumped wine down the drain till this.
