Another Trader Joe's gamble that paid off reasonably well. All this talk of "coastal" is supposed to have you thinking "cool climate" and thus more elegance than power but this is actually a pretty rich Syrah. Medium to full body and a lot of sweet dark red fruit up front, but definitely recognizable as Syrah. A slight peppery edge, a little earth, and a touch of woodsiness. Would buy again.

Can't get excited and say lots of good things about this wine. I don't totally dislike it, and will buy another bottle to decant and taste the next day. There are some flavors like game and raw meat here that just don't need to be, at the level they appear. Typical purple color. Some meat and minerals with minerals, black fruit, and alcohol on the nose. Has a Syrah style full mouth feel. Could use some more fruit flavor. Kind …
