1/2 bottle cellared since release, cork a bit dry, no leak. Golden color, apricot, buttered popcorn and peach blossoms on nose, nice viscosity, not syrupy; marmalade and coconut on plate with long finish. Would be great with a variety of cheeses but our cherry cobbler/ vanilla ice cream accompanied well.

Evelien's birthday : My contribution for the birthday girl. Amber in colour but still fresh and youthful on the palate, on the elegant side for a Bordeaux sweet with some apricot and marmalade notes. Slightly syrupy but not too cloying.

First of 3 bottles. Good fill level and cork condition. Very slightly golden hue. Lively aromatics showing excellent botrytis character, as you would expect from this excellent vintage. On the palate, excellent balance with good acidity, moderate sweetness and nice texture. Clearly in the "elegant" category of Sauternes/Barsac, but I view this as a quality. will continue to drink well for another 5-10 years but bottles in good condition.

My bottle was in good condition, and the experience of a sweet wine with a lot of age to peel back the perception of sugars is really interesting, but alas this bottle didn't have the stuffing to be a very good wine. Biggest lack was intensity of fruit and probably a bit of muddled and slightly dusty notes to it.

From 375 mL, this was a perfect bottle in stunning condition. Lots of botrytis, medium weight, fairly high VA but held well and matched by the spice in here. Plenty of acid, no worries, maximum deliciousness. Not the most complex of Sauternes, nor the lightest of Barsacs. A very well pitched wine at a wonderful price on the secondary market. $35/375 mL.

In the fridge for 2 days, on ice for 2 hours, opened and then allowed to warm for 30 minutes before drinking. Color of old honey, no tartrate crystals. Nose of charred peaches, almond, vanilla and some petrol. In the mouth, peaches, butterscotch and almonds. Very low acid. We put it back in the ice bucket and wine was better ice cold, which I rarely find to be the case with Sauternes. This wine was better with a fruit dessert …

Thanks you brother-in-law Neil. My first really aged (31 years old) sticky. Coated the mouth well. Flavoursome and sweet yet not cloying. Kept going back for more sips. A smooth very, well balanced sticky. That Australian stickys should be so good. Sigh.

Color: medium-deep gold with appreciable viscosity. Good, complex, and botrytis-laden nose of peach compote, apricots, creme brulee and barley sugar. Medium-bodied palate presenting peach, mandarin orange and caramel and roti elements. Still sweet but not all that much . . . time for enjoying now or soon as this is about as complex and as long a finish as one can hope for. On the plateau so grab it while you can. . . .

amber gold colour, luscious "sweet" nose, rich and complex, palate has an interwoven carpet of complex nuances of flavour, long and persistent aftertaste, rich, even sweet but not cloying and quite a "dry" finish, as good and enjoyable as previous bottles, aged but not fading in any way

Vin servi à l'apéritif puis à table sur un poulet au sauternes et sur un fromage bleu. Belle couleur orangée bouchon parfait. Joli nez de botrytis. En bouche, très bel équilibre, vin ayant gardé une belle acidité. Pas trop liquoreux, à mon avis à son apogée. Parfait à l'apéritif et sur le poulet. Un peu moins sur le fromage qui demande un vin plue liquoreux. Très bon vin.

A bit too advanced. Not a lot of complexity. I think this many have been better 10 years ago. This had creme brulee, a little bit of heat, vanilla bean. I don't know the provenance of this wine, so perhaps storage was an issue. Drink now.

distinct orange colour, nose of just superb rich candied fruit, really complex, luscious but still fine and fresh, perfect balance on palate,coats the mouth, almost oily, intense, very persistent finish with restrained acidity trailing off, half bottle but in my air-conditioned cellar since subscription purchase, other bottles might be more advanced, this bottle was just a treat

old gold colour, candied dried fruits (apricot, fig) nose, rich luscious oily palate with clean acitiy at the finish, just a delight, perfect age, developed complexity without losing freshness, the overall clean palate is quite remarkable for the underlying sweetness and lusciousness, rich rather than elegant style, delightful and so easy (too easy in fact) to drink, yum!

Surprised to see that others thought this to be a "dry" wine. This was representative of a good house in a great year. I've cellared this since release. Moderate yellow color. Honied. Sweet. Syrupy. (not dry). Apricots. Botrytis. Acid. Crisp. I agree that this is "going nowhere", but it has already arrived at a wonderful place to accompany desserts. It's not in decline. I'm glad I bought and cellared it. If you have it, break one open.

Trentieme Fete d'Anniversaire et degustation de Bordeaux mil. 1979 (Indianapolis, IN) : A call for more Sauternes after the '88 Suduiraut. This wine was not nearly as good. Initially a bracing presence on the nose and the mouth, but it quickly lost its steam. Drinkable, but not for holding.

I probably liked this wine more than my peers did. Certainly more intense then most barsacs, but possibly some oxidation....quite amber and there was minor seepage. Little fruit, though candied raisens came to mind. More like a fine Tokaj with that burnt caramel-toffee aspect, some coffee notes, and aged sherry. Can't complain about its minor flaws for the ridiculous price it was purchased at. Glad I have another one...will be interesting to see it continue to age.

Brighton Palmer Offline (Seven Dials Restaurant, Brighton) : Mid yellow to pale gold. Hints of botrytis. Medium sweet on entry, quite light on the finish. Sweet but not cloying. Elegant, clean and fresh. Thought this was cleaner and more elegant than the general view around the table.

A very unusual Sauternes, light in color and light on its feet. In fact it smells like a dry wine, fresh and clean with scents of cucumber and a similarly clean palate impression. It seems heavier on Sauvignon Blanc than is typical for the appellation and is actually refreshing, not overly sweet.
