Some funkiness here, maybe subtle bret, Fruit seems subdued, some nice tobacco and lead, but sadly this is not a great bottle.

Been 5 years since my last bottle. Dark blackberry colour, lovely nose of cassis, minerals and a faint whiff of leather - but hardly. Medium bodied, dark fruits, but seems thinner and drier than previously. The structure is firm and tightly wound - still seems young. Would have benefitted from a lot more air. Unsure if it’s a drink now and hurry up - or whether I need to let this go secondary to see if the dry finish picks …

2009 vintage

Wow. A relic from my trip to Waiheke in '08. It's holding up remarkably well. Spot on Bordeaux-like character with hints of bell pepper and graphite to go along with seamless tannin and racy acidity. The fruit character is still bright and sings with cranberry, cherry and red cassis in perfect harmony with the structure of the wine. Glad I waited and glad I have two more bottles!

Light Brett, some residual tannins or cork influence. Decanted in the glass for 30mins and was great after that. Not exceptional though

Bought a case of 12 and while most of the bottles were pristine this one had a stretched cartridge from the cork poking out 2mm above the neck. Opened with trepidation it might be heat damaged. Cork disintegrated, luckily I had a Durand I could use to avoid getting cork in the wine. Gave it 3 hours in bottle for slow ox and cooled to about 18 as it was a warm day. 2006 vintage

The purple-flecked garnet colour is stunning here for 15 years under cork, I think the Petit Verdot is probably helping out there. There's blackcurrant fruit, some pyrazine, cigar box, anise, lead pencil, vanilla sweetness. So fresh but also loads of development, there's a lot going on here. Grippy tannins and great length. Powerful stuff and a pleasure to drink at only 13.5%. Probably the best Cab I've had this year.

my 3rd bottle of the '09 larose. definitely the weakest showing of the lot and not as good as the 2008, which i think is holding up better. air helps but it’s dustier than i recall on the nose. not bad, just dustier. palate texture is nice, it’s aged and soft but less apparent fruit than previously noted. perhaps down to bottle variation, but tonight’s showing suggests this is into its decline. drink up.

dense and rich, sweet fruity core, cedar box, dark chocolate. ripe tannins, grippy, full body. solid structure, smooth texture, very long. not tired at all though it's an average vintage. Ap 5/5, Ar 13/15, Palate 18/20, Overall 5+4/10 Total 95/100

Tight clean cork, PNP from this well cellared bottle. Very deep near black prune/purple color, with brick at the rim. Xmas spice, cassis, black currant, shoe polish, black cherry in the nose. Nothing really off, just getting old. Rich and silky, integrated oak, a touch reduced. Still ample acidity from the minor varietals in the blend, and dry black tea tannins through the long finish. Prof Lei - Best Collection of New Zealand (Newmarket, Auckland) : 44% CS, 21% Ma, 15% Me, 15% PV & 5% CF impenetrable dark red. dense rich flavours, dark fruits, cedar, tobacco, well mellowed, ripe, velvety tannins, still a little grippy. long finish with dark chocolate note. very good on density and concentration. it just stepped into peak window, an average vintage but performed excellent tonight. this is a stunner. a beautiful mature yet fruit fwd nose with herbal and savoury aromas. palate is supple, med+ in body, with the perfect pinch of acidity. great balance in this from entry through softly-wrapped tannin on the slightly mineral-tinged finish. stylistically, this definitely leans old-world/bordeaux and all the better for it.

Something was not right with the second bottle - a friend with a very educated palate felt it was Brettanomyces effected and that was also my view. Requires some decanting - takes a while to open up in the glass - older vines noticeable - earthy but softer tannins coming through - although further celllaring could yield an even silkier Wine Overall tho I am pleased with this after cellaring at around 14 deg for many years - still a few bottles to go of this vintage

Drunk at the winery over lunch. Real quality. Blueberry, tobacco, cocoa, and graphite notes. Solid tannin present but after about 90 minutes in the decanter the nose really took off and opened up. I see this as offering great pleasure already and will continue to improve over the coming decade. Really impressive juice.

Fabulous NZ Bordeaux blend. Herbaceous and bright, but beautifully balanced with exceptional intensity, which is in no way overbearing. It is lean, but also plush and textured, with a notable plummy Merlot aspect. Built on fruit, but with a lovely oak frame. Drinks well now, in early maturity, but will age. The fabled 1987, drunk last month ( in perfect condition) is still drinking perfectly in its 30th year.

Deep red purple colour, lovely blue black fruit, silky mouthfeel, modest oak, well structured. Needs a good decant and perhaps an hour or so to open up, then hits some Bordeaux notes, with no green stalks in sight! Nice wine, but a bit more time in the cellar I think may give additional enjoyment.

This wine was a dead ringer for a Pauillac or robust St-Julien Grand Cru in an excellent year. However, its completely Waiheke. Probably the best Cabernet blend I tasted in New Zealand with the Te Mata Coleraine. Had complex aromas of ash, cassis, cigar, blackcurrants, cedar, blueberries and spice. My last bottle! Holding up really well. A little watery around the edges and ruby with only a hint of brown. Pleasant nose. Berryman fruit with a hint of cigar box. Light on the palate. Drying around the edges on the tongue and no power or tannins. Past it's best but by no means finished - would last another year or so.

Drank over 2 hours. Red black fruit. Iron, minerals. Some earth. Palate matched. Full and layed in the mouth. Minty and smokey. Long big finish was some tannin. Very nice.

Popped and poured. Great nose dark fruit. Pepper. Black blue red fruit palate some vanilla. Full and creamy texture. Long finish with tannin but very well integrated. This is nice.

Savoury aroma, balanced, good length, elegant. Not as powerful as when it was young but aging gracefully. Very pleasant and great with beef casserole.

We took 24 bottles to Fiji for my daughters wedding reception dinner. Herbacious, deep cigar box with superb smokey oak. Menthol character. Medium body, high acid, drying tannins, lots of presence in the mouth. The wine is just slightly too lean with a burnt rubber character that adds a slight bitterness on the finish. The wine lingers and is well made. This wine is slightly lighter than the 2002 but is an excellent example of NZ cabernet. This will improve. Try the final bottle in 2016.

Maturing colour. Not esp deep. Initially fruit reticent and seeming too dry and lean, but opening into a long leathery flavours of a left bank claret from something like 1986. Quite interesting and sophisticated. Could hold a bit longer.

Great wine. Very dark ruby. Knock-out Pauillac-like nose with intense ink, graphite, cedar and all kinds of berries. Mid-bodied with amazing finesse, firm but quality tanins, bright fruit and high acidity. Very long finish. Quite young still, but excellent.

For a kiwi red this was OUT OF THIS WORLD!! 52% Cab Sav, 18% Malbec, 15% Petit Verdot, 10% Merlot, 5% Cab Franc.. With defnat berryfruit and slight herby taste, fairly dark purple in colour.. Opening up in the mid palate with good acidity and tannins.. Good drinking now but will be outstanding in 2+ years!

Classic NZ Cabernet nose - a bit green. Bright currant fruit, touch of mustard with good grip and length.The wine has a distinct high acid character. The herbal notes echo on the finish. Very good wine that will age well on both its tannic and acid structure

Very dark purple, almost black. Knock-out nose, with liquorice, cedar, creme de cassis, coffee, dark chocolate and smoke. Full-bodied, very youthful with firm tanins, rich multy-layered fruit and high acidity. Very long, caressing finish. A great Bordeaux-styled wine from New Zealand. Will benefit from long term cellaring.
