Very nice. No obvious flaws, but nothing spectacular either

Ok but nothing special. Hot on the finish, high alcohol drowned out whatever bouquet was present. Stick to Justin cab blends. Much better merlots out there.

I had never seen a Justin Merlot so jumped at the chance when I found this. A most interesting wine. The aroma is like cruising the aisles at a county fair. Caramel corn, funnel cake, cocoa, hay, and a whiff of dill pickle. It’s surprisingly hefty, somewhat extracted, with plump, black and red fruit flavors that shift to spicy oak and brambles on the finish. Good, if a bit manipulated. Quite frankly, I expected more.

Much more development from the first bottle. Still muted but a quality Merlot.

A simple yet daily drinker for a Merlot. PnP and decanted in the glass for an hour. Light fruits, oak and some floral aromas on the nose. Simple and muted fruit on the palate. Not a bad drinker but not a complex Merlot, makes an excellent 2nd bottle for the evening or dinner.

This required airing overnight in the bottle (at 60 degrees) to show its best. Light-medium ruby, with decent enough legs. Warm, spicy aromas. Not overtly fruity. Palate is similar, with a polished, plus texture. Plump, but not fat. Dark chocolate on the finish. Quality is more standard than special. 4-10-15-7: 86/100.

Menu decanted. Fragrant nose of balsa wood (or cardboard?), candied red fruit and hints of pine cone and anise. Palate is smooth, but somewhat one-dimensional. Finish is short with firm tannins. This is a pleasant wine, but has a cheap slant to it.
