Chateau des Annereaux, Lalande de Pomerol

(Decanted 3 hrs, cork broke). Brownish red, pale edge. Nice Merlot bq w red fruit, Christmas spices. Rounded (but still out front) tannins, good acidity, still fresh fruit in the middle (pairing very nicely with the fruit). Aftertaste balanced, nice, but not complex. While it probably peaked 3-4 years ago, it has aged surprisingly well.

My low expectations were greatly exceeded. Pop and pour. Clear garnet color. Very pleasant, easy drinking bottle with good cherry fruit. I would say very pinot-like. Pretty one dimensional and a bit out of balance with a wee bit too much acidity but what can one expect for a <$20 bottle. Easy drinking and good with food.

Nice wine if a bit simple, but certainly true to its origins, typical Bordeaux flavour profile, earthy aromas, smooth, not particularly tannic. Really decent for the price.

2005 vintage

Definitely approaching the end of its shelf life. It does not need decanting but shows cacao and mild fruit right from the start, there is even a coffee aspect to the taste. Not many tannins left, but not a flabby mess either. I would drink another bottle but would want that to happen in the next 8 months or so.

Aromas of tobacco, leather, some earth. On the palate the wine is soft and the tannin is resolved. The fruit is tart and there are notes of leather and some earth. We popped and poured the wine and it continued to improve throughout our meal with the nose getting bigger and showing more fruit and some very fine remaining tannins emerging. The wine went well with my coffee rubbed pork chop at The Twelves in West Grove.

Light floral notes and cherry on the nose. Long finish but course tannings a loss of fruit on the palette, it's past it's time.

Aromas of dark cherry and herbs. Nothing too complex, but a nice drinker. Firm tannins and this bottle was showing some notes of age for a 9yr bottle. Long finish on this wine.

Leather, black currant, and green tea on the nose. Subtle, a bit velvety, nice fruit. The bottom of the bottle had plenty of sediment and the last sip was somewhat astringent as a result. A bit beyond its prime, but still rather enjoyable. No need to decant it and make sure to not empty the last bit of the bottle. Do not keep beyond 2012.

Day 3 review. It was tight on day one but better now with minerals, raspberries, mint and rose petals. Medium finish and good concentration. This is the best bottle of the case I bought. 90+

Nice and a good intro to those who have never sampled Right Banks. Coffee, light gravel, cherry and minerals. Medium finish and good acidity.

Attractive, fairly fragrant fruit on nose - raspberries and blackberries, with a hint of volatility (or just some lifted citrus notes?). Good texture on the attack with nice fruit. By no means complex - you might even call it a bit simple - but it's really very pleasant. Soft and relatively light feeling, but there are still some fairly firm tannins asserting themselves on the finish. No 2003 over-ripeness etc here.

Either the bottles are terribly inconsistent, or it's getting much better very quickly. Nuanced black and red fruit to tame the minerals this time around. Decanted 2 hours.

Nose: gobs of dark fruit and cocoa. Taste: Included the same with bit of earth/leahter. Mouthfeel: Medium bodies, Viscous and fully resolved, with very smooth tannins. Overall: Pretty nice - but not overly complex or remarkable. For the price - a good deal - I'd seek out again.

Dark red fruit, soil, and leather on the nose. Palate is a full of soft red fruit, and a little hay/barnyard (but very little manure). Finish is gentle, with light acidity, mild tannins, and a lingering, but subtle finish. There is something very unique on the finish...like cedar with a touch of sweet tobacco. Woodsy with a touch of smoke. It's very interesting. Overall, this is a classic Old World red...restrained, with lovely subtleties. Not for New World lovers.

Fine ruby color. On the nose, hints of violets and powdered cocoa. On the palate, powerful with notes of red and black licorice, cherry and plum fruit, and faint notes of spice. It follows with a classic "watery" midpalate and a strong finish with notes of earth and herbaceousness followed by tannin and glycerin. Very nice with about an hour of breathing time.

This wine needed some air time. It was closed and almost unpleasant at first, but here's what's going on after about a half hour in the decanter. Nose has blackberry, plum, dusty, dirty earthy notes, and a chalky mocha element. The palate has nice fruit, like that of the nose, up front and gives way to a balanced midpalate that is quite similar to the entire aroma with a little more complexity, including a hint of tobacco. Started out pretty bad--harsh and slightly astringent. After about 4 hours in the decanter it had softened, revealing dark fruit and chocolate, with a pronounced green herbaceous streak through it. Interesting, but not my favorite flavor profile. Then, after another couple hours in the decanter, the green had blown off and the wine showed nice fruit, a little saddle leather and smooth tannins. Ended up very nice.

Wow! I don't care what anybody says, I loved it! So did my wife. It's definitely ready to drink. Rich, unctuous, tongue-coating, fruity, jammy, grapey. Like grape jam on toast. Not tannic at all.

Not the most sophisticated or complex wine I have tasted. Did everything right. Good nose of fruits. Taste of oak and rich fruits. But nothing particularly moving. But very drinkable and very well done regardless.
