it's very smooth and drinkable with food friendly acid and approachable tannins. 13.5% alc is balanced as it should be with this varietal. didn't open up much, maybe too young?

Very surprised at how satisfying this was with a Classic 4th Burger. Lucious and ready to drink with no pretense. Very impressed with a bargain priced wine.

Tasted blind, most thought this wine was 20-30 years old, still with ruby /garnet edges, nice core of currants with pencil lead, tobacco, leather, nice round mouthfeel, soft tannins, long finish, amazingly youthful for an 89 year old wine, what a treat!!

Soft tannins but they are definitely there and they linger on through the finish. Getting black fruit after the initial swallow an the flavor sits and settles Acidity that keeps your palate watering. Fine qpr. Dark and concentrated looking. Nose has oak, cassis, blackberry. Palate has dark fruits, zinger acid, drying tannins and some earthy soil. Not over the top but it is puckering. Dry side which we enjoy. Solid for the price.

High acid without the fruit or body to hold it up. overcompensated for with oak which doesn’t provide the necessary balance. Deep ruby. On the nose medium intensity notes of red fruit and leather. On the palate sour cherries, cranberries, a puckering level of sour. Dry, high acidity, medium tannin, high alcohol, full body, short finish. Acceptable.

To Yonny’s “solid cab” you can add “solid value”. True to the varietal, this wine is far more appealing than their ‘16 Cabernet “Rebel Cask” tried a few weeks ago. Very good QPR here!

Chicago Wine Flock...Gary Opens Cali Cab (Chez Weber - Chicago IL) : Tasted double blind in what turned out to be an even older Cali cab flight. I like old wine, but I like it because age can make it taste better. Age has made this wine very interesting, but just moderately tasty to me. Others thought it WOTN.

I have had bottles that were slightly better than this one, regardless, it is a wine that's light in color and fruit. Bright, crisp and tart, with no complexity, it is still fun to drink a wine with this much history attached.

Accessed from a private cellar, this bottle was offered for tasting by our local wine purveyor. Deep garnet/amber in color, it actually took approximately 30 minutes in the glass for the wine to fully open up. Thereafter, red plum, earth, allspice and tobacco materialize and stay persistent on both the nose and palate. The wine is medium-bodied, has medium acidity and has nicely integrated alcohol. Really pretty stunning considering the age of this wine. The bottle was in excellent condition and the wine was still rich and chewy, seemingly having reached a level of maturity and then placed in suspended animation. A real piece of history.
