it's very smooth and drinkable with food friendly acid and approachable tannins. 13.5% alc is balanced as it should be with this varietal. didn't open up much, maybe too young?

Value $13 (Costco) 2019 Simi Cabernet Sauvignon Sonoma County. Mid-dark garnet, not sharp, viscous (13.5 alc.); berries, red fruit, smokey nose; low-mid acids; softening tannins; decent Cab fruit, semi-long finish. 15.5/89.

Very surprised at how satisfying this was with a Classic 4th Burger. Lucious and ready to drink with no pretense. Very impressed with a bargain priced wine.

Tasted blind, most thought this wine was 20-30 years old, still with ruby /garnet edges, nice core of currants with pencil lead, tobacco, leather, nice round mouthfeel, soft tannins, long finish, amazingly youthful for an 89 year old wine, what a treat!!

Soft tannins but they are definitely there and they linger on through the finish. Getting black fruit after the initial swallow an the flavor sits and settles Acidity that keeps your palate watering. Like this better with food than as a drinker. I bit bigger than I thought it would be coming from Sonoma county. I feel like I’m getting red an black fruits on the nose. If you a few bottles of this I would say hold for a …

Solid QPR, lots of cherry and dark fruit notes. Needed a couple of hours to open up, as it was quite closed upon opening. Smooth, and well blended.

Costco special at $12.59 per bottle with discount. Correct cab color. Nose is one dimensional with a bit of plum that is characteristic of Sonoma County. Left bottle open for 90 minutes. 1st glass was completely closed, tannins tight. 2nd glass with dinner (grilled rib eye) showed some plum and smoke, but still very flat. 3rd glass at 90 minutes showed a little more fruit forwardness with hints of plum, cassis and smoke. Finish still displayed heavy tannins. Just not …

13.5% alcohol; composite cork with an aroma from the cork that could only be described as essence off generic cherry, tending toward sour rather than sweet, but with a by-aroma of piercing steel boring through the middle; foil is medium to heavy; long legs, dark ruby red; opened and tasted about 15 minutes later at 14 degrees C; nose has the same piercing cherry as the cork, augmented by wood and vanilla; full bodied; for a lower alcohol cab, this …

Dark berries, smoke, and graphite aromas. The palate is pretty tight right now, but it shows good brightness, structure, and a wonderful restraint you seldom see from California Cabernets. A couple of years in the bottle will make this sing.

Fine qpr. Dark and concentrated looking. Nose has oak, cassis, blackberry. Palate has dark fruits, zinger acid, drying tannins and some earthy soil. Not over the top but it is puckering. Dry side which we enjoy. Solid for the price.

High acid without the fruit or body to hold it up. overcompensated for with oak which doesn’t provide the necessary balance. Deep ruby. On the nose medium intensity notes of red fruit and leather. On the palate sour cherries, cranberries, a puckering level of sour. Dry, high acidity, medium tannin, high alcohol, full body, short finish. Acceptable.

Second of 2 ($11.99@; first given to a friend, per the below!) from a recent Costco purchase. On the nose and palate, cherries, plums, and lesser notes of mixed dark berries and cassis, anise, leather, dark florals, ground spice, vanilla, oak, and dark roast coffee. Dark purplish brown, light to medium bodied, light legs. Medium acidity and tannins, no heat. Medium complexity, medium- persistence and intensity. I used to be a semi-regular drinker of this bottling before the wine spend …

It's ok, dark fruit that is decently balanced with tannins and acid, just a touch on the sharp side. Finish is moderate. Ok every day wine. May actually mellow a bit with another year or so.

To Yonny’s “solid cab” you can add “solid value”. True to the varietal, this wine is far more appealing than their ‘16 Cabernet “Rebel Cask” tried a few weeks ago. Very good QPR here!

Chicago Wine Flock...Gary Opens Cali Cab (Chez Weber - Chicago IL) : Tasted double blind in what turned out to be an even older Cali cab flight. I like old wine, but I like it because age can make it taste better. Age has made this wine very interesting, but just moderately tasty to me. Others thought it WOTN.

Now this is a rare treat -- astonishingly lively for an 80+ year old Cali Cab. The label was pristine, suggesting this may have been reconditioned at some point in time. None the less, the wine inside the bottle impressed. Full effusive nose has tobacco and savory red fruit. Palate has medium body with mature red fruit and decaying earth notes. All the elements are still there -- fruit, light acid grip and resolved but still present tannin. History in …

Wine Flock Intro-Retro Blind Tasting (Gary's home outside on the porch, Chicago IL) : Pop and pour, blind and in a flight of 4 really older Cab's. What a treat, wonderful color, great feel on the palate, long sweet finish, lovely and 80+ years old. Those farmers just knew what were good grapes in those days. Historic. For me WOTN! Thank you Gary!!

I have had bottles that were slightly better than this one, regardless, it is a wine that's light in color and fruit. Bright, crisp and tart, with no complexity, it is still fun to drink a wine with this much history attached.

Accessed from a private cellar, this bottle was offered for tasting by our local wine purveyor. Deep garnet/amber in color, it actually took approximately 30 minutes in the glass for the wine to fully open up. Thereafter, red plum, earth, allspice and tobacco materialize and stay persistent on both the nose and palate. The wine is medium-bodied, has medium acidity and has nicely integrated alcohol. Not surprisingly, the tannins are fully resolved. Finishing smooth and with medium length, this particular …

Old School Cali Cab Tasting (Colicchio & Sons, New York, NY) : Josh K's bottle. Decanted and left to open for about 2 hours. Soft plumy fruit, spice, fruitcake. Maybe a bit musty - tinny. Deep and gentle on the palate with purple fruit, citric acid and spice. Still a little tannin left. Cassis, juicy, cherry - dusty finish which is nice but drops off fairly quickly. Pretty damn amazing for a wine made during the great depression. Ryan said …

Really pretty stunning considering the age of this wine. The bottle was in excellent condition and the wine was still rich and chewy, seemingly having reached a level of maturity and then placed in suspended animation. A real piece of history.
