Such a great champagne. Candied lemon and cream, baking spices and almond. Ginger.

Pomme, craie, croustade. Beau champagne qui m’a vraiment fait chercher à l’aveugle; salinité nette, bulle précise.

A night in Montréal part 2. Second Champagne, served blind (by me). This in my opinion blew the Jérôme Prévost out of the water. Very unique style of Champagne. Very vinous, tons of spice and a caramel/maple syrup note on the very long finish. Medium golden color. Rich mousse. Nose of baking spice, apple pie, orchard fruit pastries, nutmeg, cinnamon, gingerbread and oak. On the palate, very similar to the nose. Starts with bruised orchard fruits, some nectarine as well, …

Second bottle of this and similar impressions (ie not great) to the first. Mathieu at Noize London suggested perhaps the domaine's Pinots are their strong point.

A very nice bottle of champagne, with a modest bready quality and relatively rich fruit. Good breadth and length on the palate and showing not necessarily advanced, but plenty of maturity for a wine of this relative youth. Great for drinking now -- I personally wouldn't be too keen on aging this longer.

Starts on the oxidative and heavy side of things. But with some air it actually freshened up and showed more complexity. But didn't win a lot of love from the table. Think Chartogne's wines superior now but fun to try with some age. Drink up.

Complex in the bouquet and on the palate, a bit reductive and some nuts, good acidity and a good length.

Liverpool vs West Ham with Friends (Dubai) : Drunk with Zalto Red Burgundy glasses. Not going too much in terms of palate complexity, but did get better as it sat in the glass so might have potentially benefitted from a decant. Mouthfeel was creamy, but was balanced out nicely because this is a wine where 'energy' is the defining characteristic. Better than NV from most of the big houses, and enough here for me to seek out the vintage stuff.

Shows a little rounding from the age, but otherwise, this is still a clean and crisp Champagne; balanced between the palate presence and the acidity. Broader than other vintages, but with crisp acidity to give the palate a sense of lift. Not too complex, but very enjoyable to drink now.

Good not great. Maybe it's due to the base vintage being 17, or just being completely overshowed by the Beaux Sens the night before. A little left over for day two. Will update score if improved.

"tɑːɹˈtɑːɹ sauce" (Chicago, IL) : Probably the favourite of the Les Barres bottlings tonight. Initially this was quite underwhelming, but with air, this definitely tightened up and became much more impressive. More of a white fruit profile; a hair sweet even, but with a creamy, chalky texture that I really enjoyed.

Chartogne-Taillet Masterclass (Meursault) : This 100% Meunier Champagne comes from franc de pied vines on Thanetian limestone sands and Campanian chalk. It delivers an exceptional nose of oak spice, red apple, and cinnamon, leading into a palate that is caressing yet complex. The texture is luxurious but not heavy, with bright acidity and a long, layered finish. This cuvée consistently showcases the potential of Meunier when given the same meticulous attention as Chardonnay or Pinot Noir. 95+

Disgorged 2017. Loved where this was at. Nutty on the nose and complex / weighty mouthfeel. Need to start putting some age on NV

No notes but for my preferences this is now lovely and in the pocket. I'm surprised to find the evolved, oxidative character this wine had in youth either attenuated or better integrated. I will drink my remaining bottle in the next year or so.

Barbie vs Oppenheimer (Hey Kee HK Restaurant) : Quite muted nose at first, then it opened up in the glass - pear and nectarine, vanilla from oak. The creamy mousse stood out, finely balanced with a mineral streak. Enjoyed this richer style much more than the basic cuvee St Anne.

Champagne and northern Rhones : 2019 base, disgorged Dec 2023, 2.4g/l dosage. Immediately said that this was my favourite champagne of the lot. Superb balance with tensile citrus fruit; had richness, minerality and cut. Youthful and energetic, no reason to wait.

Dinner in Reims. Fantastic as always, This has so much aroma and chalkyness on the palate, you can see that they picked top quality grapes here. The nose has yellow and red fruit, spice box, red flowers. The palate very good density and a wonderful low dosage feeling.

Mild, soft bubbles. Medium yellow. Sharp entry, with an incredibly soft, creamy mid palate, and a rather luxurious finish. Full bodied, with lovely spice and lemon. Very solid.

2015 base, disgorged in 2020. Seems like a different style than his other wines, more oak, slight oxidation. Almost like a Selosse initial. I think this needs more time to integrate though, probably will be even better in 2-3 years. Unfortunately didn't get to spend much time with this. 92-93

Nez de pommes et fruits blancs, bouche assez ample, petite vinosité rappelant que c’est 100% Pinot Noir, bulles crémeuses, quand même une belle finesse, fort savoureux. 91-92 Gorgeous Champagne, creamy bubbles, wide and intense but with freshness and finesse, loved it.

100% Pinot Meunier, 1300 bottles from old vines planted in 1952. No disgorgement date. The color has a very amber color. The nose is also very evolved, on cinnamon and burnt sugar. The mouth is rich, the solar vintage is immediately perceptible. The attack is powerful, with ubiquitous cinnamon and dark fruits in the background. The wine appears as already very evolved, with a relatively low acidity but the balance is preserved. The wine tends to fade a little after …

Disgorged November 2019. 4gr dosage. Bottled in 2017. Oak barrels vinification. Thanetian sand mixed with clay, sandstone. Lemon, crished rocks, pear, white flowers, some mint. With tangy acids, fine concentration and a long finish. This is still a baby, and can last at least a decade. Impressive for how clean this is on palate. Lots of upside potential

A great wine from this producer as usual. Huge whiff of white flowers, lemon and grapefruit on the nose, palate struck the right balance between leanness and chiselled fruit. Still a little tightly coiled but very enjoyable nonetheless.

2014 base, disgorged June 2019. 100% Pinot Noir. Nothing to dislike here, and very much enjoyed at the time, but writing this note the next day I can't say the wine was particularly memorable. Already not that effervescent. Weighty, with a depth of fruit, good balance of acidity and some marmitey umami towards the finish. Worked well as an aperitif and continued to be good once the food was served.

La Fete: Gala Dinner (Chelsea Piers: Pier 60) : A treat to get to try one of these again. It's a lovely wine and very expressive of Alex's style. All spices and herbal and flavors you don't really associate with champagne (as Alex would say less linear) but it works super well. Really delicious.

Epic Bordeaux for an Epic Birthday!; 9/1/2021-9/12/2021 (Paris & Bordeaux) : End of the night bubbles which probably isn't exactly the right time to be appreciating this but still it jumped out of the glass at me. There is something about these wines that are champagne and yet very different than your standard champagne and so they almost force you to step back and take notice. It's like a bit of spice cabinet and herbal in nature. I really enjoyed.

Epic Bordeaux for an Epic Birthday!; 9/1/2021-9/12/2021 (Paris & Bordeaux) : From a magnum. Interesting to see my last note because I had a very similar impression with this one. It is tight. There's a lot to like about it but I think it will need a reasonable amount of additional time. I tried following it through the evening hoping there would be more evolution but always it was very tight and shy and never quite got to opening (was …

Out of magnum, this is simply gorgeous Champagne with everything I'm looking for in fine bubbles. Deliciously full-flavored with notes of toast, lemons and chalky minerals along with crisp acids and perfect balance. The finish is concentrated and quite complex already with perfect intensity and grip. This is one '08 worth drinking today!
