Nez de sucre brun, BBQ meat, OXO, viande… Light, oranges sanguines, very evolved.

The great start to 2025 (Ocean Drive) : Ripe bouquet with some VA and nail varnish. Palate showing black plums, earth, leather, sadle and granite. While still showing incredibly youthful, one can only wonder what a fruit bomb this must have been when this was younger - good depth but lacking balance and finesse.

Still very much alive, although it appears to be past peak performance. Ready from the pull of the cork, some secondary notes still showing through. Held well over dinner. Drink up.

Still very sweet, almost too sweet, jammy fruit. Lots of volume, lots of extraction. Ripe as well, and it’s a 1999. The 1999 Roger Sabon Prestige was much, much more interesting.

I was surprised that this was still in decent shape based on CT's 'drink by window.' Not a ton of life left, but definitely not over the hill.

Drank on NYE over a rib roast. Showed beautifully after 20 years in the cellar although we lost about 20% of the bottle due to sentiment after decanting. Opened about 45 minutes prior to serving. It was a brown red color with clear signs of age, but still showing good concentration. Waited too long on this one. Some candied fruit, way out of balance.

Better than previous bottles though it is still a ripe, extracted wine. The fruit has calmed down, is more subtle, flavors of dark plum and dark red cherries. Garrigue and mint notes as well. All in, a decent showing.

The ’99 Chaupin was a real showstopper. On the nose I found soaring aromatics, with fresh crushed cherry, exotic spice, sweet floral tones and forest floor, in an expression that was more like Pinot Noir than Grenache. On the palate, it was soft and enveloping but with a fresh wave of acidity that gave the sensation of weightlessness as notes of cherry pit, cranberry sauce and sweet herbs glided across the senses. Sweeter and more flabby fruit compared to the 1996 Beaucastel. Very Grenache in a way, but I'd prefer a bit more structure and restraint. This is not a bad wine, it's just not in a style I care so much for anymore.

Sweet fruit, very Grenache, spicy, perhaps a bit polished but not over the top anymore. As with the 1999 Font de Michelle Gonnet from the other night I find this to be a decent wine in its own right but compared to the Sang des Cailloux, this came across too sweet for me.

First I've had of this label and was very enjoyable. Nice cherry red color with the opacity one would expect from an unfiltered wine. Nice perfume. Saw lots of comments about lavender, and yeah I maybe got that. Still had nice bright fruit on the palate; cherry and maybe raspberry. Very easy to drink but if I was sitting on more I wouldn't hold it much longer.

Decanted 2 hours before drinking - essential given the amount of sediment. Blackcurrent and slightly chemically nose. Still fruit to taste with a hint of smokiness and spices.

La Janasse at The Oxford Wine Circle (Oxford University) : Extremelly delicate and Chaupin-like, this 1999 seems like to be an unourished Chaupin as it doesn't have either of the structure, the concentration and the matter of its younger peers. I don't see any reason to age this any further.

Similar to a previously tasted bottle. The wine shows a mature profile with it giving a better showing on the palate than the bouquet. The wine has deposited a fair amount of sediment and benefit from careful decanting (purchased on release).
