This pours deep, deep ruby in the glass, with medium bricking toward the rim. The nose is deep, rich and powerful showing prune, tar, walnut, and blackberry liquor. Remarkably rich for the age. The palate enters on the dripping sweet black fruit. Tannin is medium minus and dusty with medium acid. The finish closes nicely on blackberry and walnuts. Really nice stuff and consistent with previous notes this is rather rich compared to other VPs from the era.

Just a few drops by the glass. Tasted separately during a whole week. Despite the time from this vintage, this bottle still represents that place right in the middle between Portuguese traditional style and modernity, between delicious fruit and an excessive weight. Solo unas gotas en el vaso. Catado por separado durante toda una semana. A pesar del tiempo desde esta vendimia, esta botella todavía representa ese lugar justo en el medio entre el estilo tradicional portugués y la modernidad, …

FTLOP 18th Anniversary; 11/17/2023-11/19/2023 (Seattle, Washington) : Dark pink-purple hue with slight garnet edges. This wine offers a nose of dark, brooding fruit. While it could use a touch more acidity, it delivers a "slurpable" profile with a very nice, long finish.

Wonderful Port Stored since 2005 in perfect conditions undisturbed Cork mouldy until last 1cm. Ullage grade A. I was worried! Bright polished deep tawny rim Decanted for 2 hours Solid sediment which made it easy to decant. Nose dominant raisins but complex rich ripe fruit too. No sign of cork contamination. Palate full bodied silky smooth, Tanins very smooth and still there. Still refreshing acidic undertones Incredible burst of dark fruit,, no signs of the mouldy cork Finish incredibly long …

This pours deep ruby, with the faintest bricking at the rim. Opaque at the core. Remarkably deep color for the age. The nose is deep, rich and opulent showing plum, dried dark cherry, sweet cedar, charcoal, mossy undergrowth, and old furniture. The palate enters on the rich, expansive plummy fruit, turning to remarkably medium minus tannin still holing on. Acid is medium and the alcohol is in check, with not too much heat showing. The finish lingers nicely, primarily showing …

Ramos Pinto Vintage Port Vertical (P81) : Powerful young dark plum fruit with very raw tannins. The entire experience indicates that this is a wine that seems unresolved and needs more time to find a balance.

Vintage port 1983 (Portvinsklubben 1981) : Deep flavors of sweet plums with a touch of coffee and dark chocolate. The sweetness is dominating a little bit but overall a really nice wine.

2015 Port Harvest Tour; 9/26/2015-10/3/2015 (Portugal) : Amber-purple in color. Dusty, dark cherry on the nose with some underlying herbal notes. Full, unctuous mouthfeel with cola, mahagony and mocha notes. Very long finish with waves of chocolate and treacle.

A private tasting (Restaurant Merkelbach, Amsterdam, NL) : Good depth on the nose, hint of volatility, plummy fruit, fully developed; powerful but quite hot on the palate, ripe fruit but a bit disjointed, still tannic, flavoursome and long.

D+0 - From the decanter, an opulent dark fruity smell comes up. Lovely. A sip from the glass with the dregs shows some cooked vegetables and leather on the nose. Rather restrained on the palate. Full sweet with modest fruit. Again leather, currant and a rather dry, and acidic finish. This could do with some time in the decanter. D+5 - Dry and slightly hot on the youthful nose, that shows elements of blueberry and tobacco. Light to medium bodied, …

http://www.everywine.co.uk/every-wine/35053-adriano-ramos-pinto-1983-vintage-port-wine-douro-portugal.html 1983 was a classical vintage year. It was characterized by a fairly dry winter, followed by substantial spring rains to balance out the growing cycle. Temperatures were moderate, resulting in grapes of especially high quality. Amazingly intense cherry color, with concentrated aromas of black currant, cassis, cherry and blackberry. Fresh and fruity in the mouth, with great structure and seductive balance. Luscious and built to last!
