The first one of these we had was incredible, but the last was regrettable (well maybe not that bad, but “just OK” does not rhyme with “incredible”). I was worried. OK, I was terrified after the last bottle/ I did not pay a ton for these (about $20/bottle) but I thought they were more than worth it. Ruh roh. I brought six of these back from France several years ago. The first two were incredible. Not this one. Very, very dark. Some hints of what it once was, but oh boy. Not yet awful, but I can't serve this to anybody we don't hate. I am hoping this was just an isolated poor seal. I hope. Otherwise I might break my tailbone for kicking myself. Three to go. This is a wine that I brought back a few years ago from a a producer in a tiny little village called Niedermorscwihr. The Sommerberg is an extremely steep vineyard there that Claude Weinzhorn (the vigneron) says is three times more expensive to farm than any of his other vineyards. The wine was fantastic–incredibly rich and full with caramelized apples and lemon. A viscosity that coats the whole mouth and ends with an incredibly long finish. Outstanding. 93 points. * …

Was worried about this one since I had bought six several years ago and had not popped any yet. No need to worry. Some tropical, yet understated fruit with a brilliant acidity. Full, unctuous mouthfeel, impressive finish. Good for at least a few more years--no rush.
