Found at the back of the cellar, and feared it was over the hill. Nose was still attractive with some strawberry/raspberry aromas, and surprisingly light ruby in color. On the palate, it was overwhelmingly hot, like cherry cough syrup with less cherry, and way past the prime drinking window. My fault for waiting too long.

Reading all the recent reviews I thought for sure this bottle was going to be dead.... very far from the truth... lots and lots of fruit , crushed strawberries comes to mind. So much fruit is present you can barely feel the 16.7% alcohol ... yes it is this high and that is why I tend to not drink so much of this stuff but from time to time it hits the spot

This is drinking well. More subtle in its strong blackberry flavors. Pretty sweet, though nice with leftover thanksgiving food. The ban not a big fan so that probably influences my score. If you like this style, this is a more aged and subdued version. This is definitely not over the hill.

Saved this for a vertical tasting that never happened. Big mistake, since it was WAY over-the-hill. Extremely pale color. Minimal everything, except for some mustiness and other "off" notes.

Getting dark and raisiny. Still surprisingly fresh tasting. Was probably at it's peak 3 years ago. Eat with steak which made it better. Want to try a younger version.

Nice browning on the edges. Blueberry, mulberry, initial barnyard note on the nose that blew off after a couple minutes. Palate of sous bois, mulberry, blueberry, bit of spice, a brambly character, nice soft acid, rounded edges, and a bit of slightly rustic tannin. Good bramble and mulberry finish. Definitely aged well, full of fruit - a straightforward pleasure to drink. Drank unpaired.

Not fruity in the ordinary sense. Rather like thinned, uncomplicated blackberry juice to which has been added sucrose and alcohol. Picked up from winery; perfectly stored.

Nose of strong rich blackberry and blueberry syrup. Palate has similar sweet taste. This could be a blueberry wine. PnP – curious to see if it develops into something more complex. Slightly better with food (steak and mushrooms) but still strong sweetness of blueberry with a bit of acidity. If I tasted this blind I don’t think I would like it very much. It is only because I know its pedigree that I struggle to find something good about it. …

too much alcohol, but it obviously was a great preservative for the fruit. The bottle was open for about 2 hours and it was still clean and fruity, but alcohol nose was a bother for my partner.

Seriously bricked, but still alive. Fruit has faded a bit, but there is still intense depth of flavor. In its prime, this was a heavyweight champion. Today this wine is like watching Muhammad Ali fight Ken Norton. The champ's skills have eroded, but there are plenty of echoes of greatness.

This was better than the previous one. Let it breath for two hours, no decant. Black currant, raisin, cranberry, some earth, wood and cake notes in the background. Surprisingly it was not overpowered by the 15+ ABV, although there was definitely was a bit of that "brandishy" thing going on at the back of the finish. Definitely past its prime but very drinkable, drink me if you got em

maybe the most impressive example of an aged zin that I have ever had. As this was popped and poured in the glass, aromas of cherries and baking spice. very balanced. Not hot or outrageously plummy/pruney like I find some turleys. I think it's time to drink it.

Rich, ripe, and holding its own at this age. Smokey spice, blackberry, cassis, with some wild red fruit and plum notes and a touch of earth and oak. Tannin is completely integrated. Medium finish with a hint of tar. Not particularly complex, but as my wife say, yummy! 88-90

Popped and poured. Still had life for a 10 year old zin but I probably missed the window. Slight bricking, and retained the Turley essence of dark fruit, bramble and pepper. But not particularly concentrated or complex. Good acidity and not showing any heat despite the high octane.

I had this 2 years ago and liked it better then. Tonight, not particularly rich. Brambles trending slightly toward prune/port. Thinner mouthfeel with a more obvious display of the 17% alcohol. Others swear that Turleys age with grace, but I have yet to see it. I like this, but feel disappointed relative the enjoyment from the previous bottle.

This vintage of this wine is holding very nicely. The wine shows a nice nose of plum and red currant with a sweet note. The fruit and acidity are balanced nicely with a smooth mouthfeel and a round plum and fig essence. The finish is also smooth but the flavor turns to an oily texture sans fruit. Overall, a very nice showing for a zin of this age.

Turley Zinfandel "Hayne Vineyard" 2000 - I am getting through my remaining bottles of Turley Zinfandel as I have left the list (how much of this style can one person drink???) and I am convinced the Zins do not age. This wine was in much better shape than the 2001 Old Vines I had last week, but the wine would have been better a few years back. Even so, I thought the wine was excellent. With 15-30 minutes air super …

Decanted for 3.5 hours. In the glass, nearly opaque black. On the nose, a mix of cranberry and slate. On the palate, an interpolation between zinfandel, port, and scotch. I don't mean to suggest that this was a syrupy fruit bomb; more that it had notes that reminded me of all three. Cranberries, peat, minerals, and a subtle alcoholic tinge, with an almost overpowering tannic and peppery finish. Not unpleasant, and actually a very interesting wine, but really jarring given …

Showing signs of bricking, this is medium cranberry colored with a similar nose (first impression - Ocean Spray!) Not at all the blockbuster I expected from the "Hayne" vineyard. Flavors of cranberry and lead pencil, with the tannins mellowed by now and very balanced with the acidity. A nice wine, and certainly approachable and compatible with food. My only quibble is with the QPR; blindfolded you would guess this was a $25 bottle. A little one-dimensional and light, but juicy …

After tasting the '95 Turley Aida earlier this evening, this is more like it. Sweet, brambly, dusty on the nose...a profile I prefer for Zin, ala some other aged Turleys and the under-the-radar Javelina Leap. The nose gains a hint of port aromo after an hour or so that is quite pleasant. Fruit and alcohol are nicely balanced (in a "zin" way) on the palate with a long finish. The almost 17% alcohol grabs attention early on, but subsides into …

Very sweet. Candy apple. No raisen or prune like some old Turleys develop. No browning. Silky mouthfeel. Admittedly not a lot of fruit but I tasted none of the heat others have identified, and no fading. This wine was always a bit thin (for a Turley) and has held up surprisingly well.

Intoxicating nose of Italian spices, forest floor, alcohol and sweat socks. Rich mouthfeel with spice and alcohol--almost no tannins. Finishes a little bitter. Overall an enjoyable experience but it burns a little hot at 15.2% alcohol. I was thinking this vintage was at the end of its term but after tonight's 2 bottles, it probably has another year or 2 of prime years.

Purple in color, this wine was a great treat. I had expected less from the 2000 but it has really come together well as a great wine. Full bodied, even by Turley standards, this was a highly concentrated wine that was dripping with blackberry scents and flavors. Very glyceral in the mouth and long on the finish. All one could want from this style of Zin. Very impressive! 50+13+13+8.5+8.5 = 93

Opened on a random Saturday afternoon with a couple of friends and was very pleased with the result. Definitely has the distinctive Turley fruit forwardness but a rounder wine that previous Juvenile bottles that I have opened. Smooth on the mid-palate with a nice long finish. Definitely showing well now, so if you have a collection of Turley this would be a good choice for the near term.

Opened two bottles. Both were showing very well, however the second bottle really shined. Deep, dark red, almost purple. Looked like a freshly bottled young wine. Huge aromas of fresh crushed berries, with a hint of dust and smoke. Medium body, medium wieght, and medium long finish. Very well rounded wine. Typical Turley profile, and a real pleaser. I figure that properly cellared, this vintage has 2-3 more years.

Starting to lighten in color and fade to a light brick red. Lost most of its primary fruit that made this wine so enjoyable in its youth. On the aroma I get cooked, as in stewed fruits (plums apricots etc) and a trace of fertilizer. The pallet is light with some heat peaking thru. Not in love with this wine.
