A small impromptu dinner - 09 Rayas (The Henri, Washington D.C.) : Past prime. A lot of brown sugar and a hint of madeira. Impressive concentration. I actually enjoyed the super sweet, mature fruit that is only found in wines over 50 years old.

Terracotta. Incredible nose of confection, spice, tar and rose, but specifically Jersey caramel. Tertiary but youthful, light red berries, tar and rose, delicious!

The wine was decanted for about 1 hour before drinking. The wine had a strong, pleasant alcoholic aroma. At first the wine was "tight" and a bit acidic but with time the fruit came forth. This was a big, bold wine that was very easy to drink. It did not show its age, but was fresh and fruity once it got some oxygen. I am not sure how it would change with more time in the bottle, but it still …
