Monchiero Barolo Montanello Riserva

The wine has been open & decanted for about 45 minutes at this time. A ruby core leading to a lightly bricked meniscus. Scents of tar, dried violets, black cherry & spices. On the palate the tannin steps forward first followed by cherry, clove, and orange rind. The finish is medium in length and this wine is ready to go with cheeses or some food with some richness or fat at this stage in its life.

Initially I was a little worried that this would be shut-down...but with 30 minutes in the decanter it blossomed into the wine I was hoping might show up tonight. This is a beautiful wine that showcases the value of finding traditional producers that are under the radar. A wine of this quality from a well known producer would command twice the price...but this little gem full of scents of tar, earth, and red fruits showcases the elegance and power that …

We tasted this at the winery and loved it! Scents of tar, dried roses, dehydrated cranberries, and earth-driven notes of mushrooms and forest floors. On the palate dried red fruits dominate and at this time it's lean and offers vibrant notes of red fruit. It's classic in style and needs time & patience in the cellar. Now it's Outstanding! And I would expect it to improve with time in the cellar, Outstanding!!
