Domaine Daniel Rion et Fils Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Charmes

A 'Lost Cellar' wine. Found deep in my cellar where it had slumbered since purchase in 1995, this wine was a clear cherry red with a rusty edge. The nose was beautiful from first opening with strawberry, redcurrant, raspberry and rose then evolving with some black fruit and spice characters. Very similar experience to Tex, but without the cloudy silt. My bottle was ruby clear and absolutely gorgeous, youthful and full of energy. Red fruit Pinot nose with a layer of earthiness that provided depth. Palate was rich, soft and energetic with wonderful balance of fruit and bite. Great bottle.

Slightly volatile, which marred an otherwise nice wine, with good concentration of dark fruit and silky extract.

Bottle was in good shape. The cork was intact and I was able to remove it in one piece with an Ah-So (was too soft for corkscrew). The wine was deep-crimson colored, with no orange or amber hues. Despite my best efforts, there was quite a lot a extremely fine sediment that caused the wine to appear muddy or cloudy. Fully integrated flavors and aromas. CT Wisconsin Offline; 6/24/2011-6/25/2011 (Madison, WI) : Somewhat pale and cloudy. A bit hot and vegetal but still holding on and showing some nice dark pinot fruit.

On the palate it has sour cherries, more leather, cigar box and a bit of cellar dust. Medium-long finish consistent with the taste with leather at the very end. I was not expecting much, but this was a very pleasant surprise. Good fruit, this is somewhere between primary and secondary and in its drinking window.
