Domaine Dominique Belluard, Le Feu, Vin de Savoie

Perfect cork, light golden colour, beguiling, fresh nose of mountain herbs, hints of citrus, underlaid by slight reductive, flinty notes. Beautifully balanced on the palate, same freshness, not terribly, but pleasantly long. A great wine that could still last longer – given good storage and a good cork.

Another good bottle. No signs of oxidation. Round, rich, textured. It was probably better in its youth, but this was still enjoyable beyond the first glass.

Belluard Le Feu 2012 has a dark golden hue, almost amber in appearance, reveling some very oxidative notes, difficult to pin note, but once it opens and get the right temperature slightly chilled instead of cold, it blossoms into your glass with concentrated honey, baked apple with caramel, cider-ish. A good bottle. Plenty of bright acidity, tension, and texture, just a hint of apple cider. This was delicious, but age did it no favors; should have opened it years ago.

This wine has evolved since I drank it last. Still dry, clean, and crisp but so much more complex. Aromas of apricot and peach have appeared and are followed by pear and apple and Reine Claude. Long fruity finish w/o any sweetness. Glad I can keep cellaring the last bottle.

Domaine Belluard is a champion for how great the wines from the Gringet grape can be. In these able hands, the Gringet wines excel. A very distinct and unique popcorn note on both the nose and palate (plain popcorn, not the buttery stuff you'd find in an over-oaked chard). This is wild, funky, different and lovely, all at the same time. A little like the Lady Gaga of wine. It is very lively and energetic, intense, yet balanced and cool. Showing best at cellar temp.

A private dinner (Bentley's Oyster Bar, London, UK) : From the indigenous and almost extinct Gringet grape; 22ha exist, of which 10 are tended by this domaine.
