Domaine Pinson Frères Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos

Fully mature bottle. Acidity has been absorbed. Slightly nutty. Waiter’s recommendation of finishing with key lime pie with pecan crust worked.

Better than bottle consumed four months ago. Medium gold. Sufficient crisp acidity, hint of old oak on palate. Half of bottle two weeks later from fridge with vacuvin, distinctly creamy, firm acidity still, tertuary notes of old oak.

Light gold. This has turned out well, especially for the price. For me, best very cold for firm minerality almost elegant. Warmer, reminds of very nice Cali chard.

Much better served cold, like young dry white bordeaux.

Pale yellow-gold color. Relatively restrained nose but some pleasant tropical fruit aromatics (hint of pineapple and white flowers). This seemed to be a little overripe and much less steely than I expected. It was a little flabby on the palate (short finish, a bit unctuous but not lacking acidity and minerality). Pleasant but not at the level of complexity for what should be seen in Les Clos. Hopefully the next bottle will show better!

A fat Le Clos with just enough internal discipline to remain dry on the finish with a sprinkling of minerals and a whiff of saltwater taffy. This is much too horizontal for the purists, but it delivers pure, rich Chardonnay bliss.

Brought to a tasting against my better judgement. Opened nearly 2 hours before tasting, but this was incredibly tight, showing little of the minerality and acidity promised by a Les Clos Grand Cru Chablis. Keep this cellared for a minimum of 3 more years.

Tasted at the Skurnik Grand portfolio tasting in NYC. Poured by Laurent Pinson. This wine comes from vines that average 50 years of age, fermented in barrel (20% new) and aged in 1-2 year old barrels. This wine has all the things I have come to expect from Les Clos.
