Domaine du Pegau, Pink Pegau

French road trip, mainly Rhône valley; 9/4/2022-9/18/2022 : From open 75cl at Domaine Pegau tasting room, Châteauneuf du Pape. A skinny typical Provence-style rosé, quite unlike anything else I have tried from Pégau and totally unlike Tavel (even through I wouldn't be surprised if some of the juice came from there...). But absolutely OK, in its ephemeral, sun-and-fun, bone-dry, beach-party kind of way. 85P

Monthly Tasting Group: Rose's on the Patio, or Not (Derek and Diane's, Mpls) : Light pink color. Never had the Pegau rose before. It was nice and light, fresh with bright delicate berry fruit. 88+ to 89pts.

Bright pink salmon color. Flavors of winter melon, strawberry, watermelon, gooseberry, oyster shell and sage. Sweet aromas but savory palate.

Dry and crisp. Tart strawberry taste. Medium finish. Great food wine. Very drinkable. Short bottle (gone before we knew it).

Beau rosé bien fait. Robe fraise. Sur la framboise, fleur et rose. Belle complexité, parfait en accompagnement d’un repas.

Roses, strawberries, flowers on the nose. Tart and spicy on the palate, fresh and tangy. Spicy floral and white pepper notes accentuate the red apple and raspberry flavors. Fun, tasty, easy stuff.

A solid rosé -- more herbs than fruit on the nose but there is some melon and dried berry fruit. Refreshing with plenty of tangy acid.

2014 vintage

Berry and floral notes follow through on the palate, picking up a nice mineral note on the finish. Very nice.

2013 vintage

The nose takes you to straight to southern France. heavy handed acidity, but the wine has plenty of weight thanks to mostly cinsault. Tart grapefruit, stone notes predominate. Perfectly refreshing in hot weather and underrated on this site.

Beau rosé pas très complexe mais qui se boit d'une trette! Fraise,fraise confite et légèrement herbacé. Un finale un peu sucré. Très bien dans l'ensemble mais un rosé ne m'excitera jamais et je ferai jamais un article de 2 pages là-dessus à chaque année. 88 pts

Don't think the bottle was flawed, but no one particularly cared for it, myself included. It just didn't seem to offer anything. Nothing interesting on the nose and on the palate seemed almost like drinking water.

Served with dinner finished later in the evening. Fairly muted on the nose, palate has some nice zippy strawberrys and lemon. Acids are the strenght of this wine otherwise it is simply quaffable.

A mid-winter visit to Châteauneuf-du-Pape; 2/5/2015-2/7/2015 (Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Southern Rhône, France) : Cinsault and Grenache. A meaty nose but quite clean and bracing on the palate. Tight, citric, cutting and mineral. This will take a bit to unwind, but I am sure it will be quite clean and refreshing.

Tasting in Châteauneuf-du-Pape; 2/5/2015-2/7/2015 (Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Southern Rhône, France) : Light pink color. Fresh nose with hints of watermelon. Sour cherry and minerals on the palate. Crazy mouthwatering acidity. Very crisp and refreshing.

Tried my first bottle of this 5 months ago and thought it was awful. Not great, but drinking much better now. Pale pink. Palate decent with a hint of strawberry balanced with chalk. Didn't find the off tasting metallic quality that I did the last time.

After reading others' notes, I decided the best use for my lone bottle was in a sausage, potato and artichoke stew. Was most dismayed by this lackluster bottle that lacked the flavor and delineation of the 2012s I'd enjoyed so much last summer. Simplistic and acid-driven, no summer joy.
