This wine is singing right now. Vibrant acidity and excellent mouthfeel. Lemon curd, vanilla, stone fruit, and a touch of toasted oak. This still has life ahead of it but very enjoyable now. 94 points.

Sesame, nuts, ripe, sweet yellow fruit, powerful, Californian style for sure but has freshness and that savory edge Chardonnay needs. Intense and long. I have a weakness for this wine I know that although normally not my preferred style. Drinking fantastic now. 18/20

Pale yellow. Shyish malo nose. White peaches, lemons and an oxidative note on the palate. Not all that expressive. Give it a year or two.

Deep yellow-gold color. Honey, minerals, lemon on the aromatic nose. Crisp and minerally on the palate, lemon, apple, sweet honey. Gorgeous. A touch of oak, but not overbearing, a nice compliment is all. Beautiful acidity, great balance. Long, minerally finish, lemons and honey. Beautiful Chardonnay. Drink next 6 years.

Ripe lemon, mint, toasted nuts and buttered popcorn on the nose. Gets more and more herbal and fresher the longer it is open to a point where the oak is just a shadow in the background, fruit and herbal freshness playing the main role. Medium to full bodied palate, generous, ripe fruit, herbal and almost spicy / peppery. Beautiful, bright acidity on the very long finish. Extraordinary harmony. Again a fantastic vintage of this classic. 18+/20

It tastes like barnyard, clove and lemon. The wine has smooth texture.

Served side by side with 2018 Gap's Crown. Gap's Crown is slightly richer, Durell has a bit more acid, which was preferred unanimously at the table.

Tasted against a 2020 Domaine Barraud Pouily-Fuisse En Buland. This wine had a nose of both fruit and earth, and had a touch of acid on the initial attack. Hard to distinguish between this and the French offering at this point, especially since this one seemed to have more much minerality.

Decent floral, crisp, lots of tart not much depth in terms of flavor color is more pale then clear. This is a marginal note because it got over shadowed by two bigger hitting boys from other producers.

Big, buttery Sonoma Coast chard with just enough restraint to avoid parody. Enjoyed over three nights (kept in fridge without ill affects). On the nose: pineapple, pear, buttered popcorn, creme brule. Round and sweet on the palate, flavorful on the finish. Great value at Costco.

Caramel popcorn, pineapple, braced by a tangy minerality. Wonderful stuff and will improve. In 10 years this will be a dream but I don’t think it’ll last that long!

Crisp, round, warm lovely Chard from the excellent winemaker at 3 Sticks. We aren’t big fans of Chardonnay, but we have friends who are and so we always keep a stash of 3 Sticks for them.

Delicious from the first sip. Reads notes of vanilla and lemon curd at first, but as it warms, vanilla and honey come into play to balance out the citrus. Good viscosity and mouth feel. Flavors are pronounced and clear. Strong enough for food [for example, stronger and better than the Miramar Bonitas Hill that we had after this].

Moderate oak pairs well with earthy and buttery fare such as beet pasta. Great acidity and lingering green fruit on the palate give this wine a nice balance against the oak.

Gushing Some More It’s new release time at Three Sticks Winery, so to be clear, you’re going to be seeing a fair amount of their wines passing by my blog. This is to prepare you for what I can honestly say beforehand will be some outstanding wines; much like the Alana Chardonnay review I just posted last week. This time out I am focusing on their second Chardonnay of this release, the Three Sticks Sonoma Coast Durell Vineyard Chardonnay 2018 …

Pale gold. Nose: Butter pastry, white flower, lemon zest. Mouth: Juicy, pure flavors of meyer lemon and golden apple come across on a lightly plush frame, with a hint of allspice, butter croissant, and a zippy acidity that provides cut. Finish is expansive, opening up into big spice tones that double back on themselves as everything fades slowly. Overall: Pure fruit and round rich notes result in good body that's kept honest by lithe acidity that activates everything along the …

Quite interesting to taste this vs. the 2015. This is more balanced, less oaky, livelier.

Tasted at the 3 Sticks release party and then shared a bottle on Sunday. Very nice structure, fruit and acidity for a Pinot Blanc. Fairly expensive but one of the best Pinot Blancs I've had.

Toller, spannender Chardonnay!

First slightly reticent. Notes of matchsticks, lemon zest, some sweet spices, also some minerality, wet stone, also some smoke, with more air also some minty notes and white flowers. It‘s medium+ bodied, but with excellent persistence, good medium-high acidity and excellent length. A lot of tension here. This needs some air as it was opening up significantly with a few minutes in the glass. Looking forward to taste it again. (93+)

Much like the 2014 version, this 2016 is fairly lush and creamy, with lemon curd, almond paste, ripe pear, hazelnut, and some faint earth. An agreeable wine to be sure, with enough acid and grip to hold the core fruit together and drive it through the back end. Drink now and over the next couple of years.
