from magnum.... 25 disgorgement date so 2021 base... i've both drunk and sold a ton of this wine... it is always excellent. it is always consistent. not sure there is a better expression of Cuis fruit... tons of acids that with a low dosage and some reserve wines really pops... chalky citrus and barely ripe green apple. no oak influence... has malo. moderately long and always on point for its terroir.

Finally got in some of my 375 Champagnes. Found some 375ml EB’s. Look forward to those. The VC last weekend was not something I normally do. However, I do like Gimonnet’s craft. Enjoy the SC’s more, but this will do. Nice, ripe, bruised green apple/pear, lemon/lime pulp with zest, grapefruit w/ pith, touch of tropical melons, kiwi and white stone fruits, ginger-ale quince, nougat, pronounced white spice, gritty chalk/limestone, yeasty bread dough, almond cake, yellow lilies, white flowers, lively, crisp …

The nose is cool and precise—lemon pith, green apple skin, crushed oyster shell, and wet limestone, with a faint suggestion of white flowers and fresh dough beneath. On the palate, it’s brisk and linear, driven by saline acidity and a fine, chalk-dust texture that feels more sculpted than plush. Citrus stays in the background, more zest than juice, as mineral tones. Superior in quality.

New Years half bottle! Disgorged 2025 so not much time to settle. The nose was intense with golden apple, peach skin, and citrus with the background of brioche. On the palate, it shows remarkable acidity but also a lot of lactic acid, having undergone fill malolactic conversion. The golden apple and peach come through with a little bit of pineapple but the yeastiness packs a huge punch. The finish had a lot of phenolic bitterness so I let it sit …

Disgorged: 2021. Excellent Grower Champagne, light yeast and toast, that will no doubt develop further as this ages.

Out of a more mature magnum this is easily 18/20. Absolutely lovely how everything plays together in pure harmony here. this has rapidly become one of my favourite producers for BdB.

Just a beautiful NV Blanc de blanc, with a perfect dosage, lovely mousse and mouthfeel. A great bargain, at least for grower champagne. I have been a fan of Gimonnet for awhile. I definitely will be purchasing again. Enjoyed during New Year’s Eve dinner paired with an Asian influenced salad of scallops with a ginger, sesame dressing. I also paired it with the lovely triple cream Mt Tam, which was fantastic.

Just picture perfect BdB once again for me. Pure, mineral, sleek, yet never austere, with the perfect amount of sweetness and full bready brioche character. This is really so great especially considering the modest pricing. 17.5+/20

Gimonnet is one of the true quality producers in Champagne with good QPR. You could make a case for rounding up here to 92 but I don’t think it is quite there, yet. 100% Chardonnay. 100% Cuis 1er Cru in the Côte des Blancs. The vintage blending: 6 vintages. 70% 2021. 30% 2014-2020. Disgorgement 1/25 Dosage 6g The palate shows nice mousse. Red & golden apple, pear, white peach, lemon but more lime pulp w/ some zest, pineapple hues, bread …

Brioche, vanilla and lemon. Lovely intensity on the nose. Supple texture with a fine, unobtrusive perlage, sweeter than the 5 g dosage would let you expect. Great balance for me and just an elegant, classy wine. Very good QPR. 17/20

Light straw (dull gold) hue. Aromas of apple, brioche, and mushroom. Zippy on the palate, with minerals, pear, saline. Soft and integrated on the palate, with a complex bouqet.

Pretty Chardonnay fruit, nice clean, creamy lees. Normal-ish dosage, but good acidity. Showing fresh, with lots of tiny bubbles. Quite nice, if nothing to get too excited over.

2019 base, 2022 disgorgement. 2nd and final bottle of this. This isn’t bad at all, but wouldn’t be my pick in the $45-55 range - I’d probably lean toward Laherte Freres BdB Brut Nature. After 2 hours of being open, this developed a strong butterscotch note that I found unpleasant - it probably has something to do with the 6g/L dosage poking through.

2019 base, 2022 disgorgement. Bright and crisp, but unexceptional, for the first 45 minutes. After that, opens up and becomes richer, including a prominent buttered brioche note on the palate. Good QPR once it gets some air.

This was a chameleon. Tasting bright with a touch of apple to begin. With the food, oysters, it was creamy and had structure. Nice pairing. Afterwards it still tasted great but no apple at all. Fun to have at the dinner

Beatiful golden colour with fine bubbles. Still quite sharp acidity, lemon curd, brioche, mineral and red grapefruit in the aftertaste. Very good wine and probably will give more with some more years in the cellar.

At a restaurant BTG and unsure of base/disgorgement info (but it's presumably fairly recent). This is such a great aperitif: lithe, clean, citric and refreshing but also welcoming and so easy to sip pleasurably and unobtrusively.

Apéritif before aged porterhouse last night; hence imperfect note. Nice perlage, yeasty and doughy notes that continue on the palate. Very nice; good QPR and agree with ranking in the 60s in WS top 100 of 2024.

Disgorged December 2023. Restaurant purchase so no full note, but this was biscuity and doughy on the nose, with some citrus accents. Chalky with nice acidity on the palate but lacked a little bit of excitement.

Quite developed color. Lovely developed aromas, with green apples, maillard and minerals. Has mellowed quite a lot since last tasted three years ago. The tightness and intensity has gone, and is replaced by an agreable and easygoing Champagne. Don't think there is more to gain here.

Disg. 12/23. Acidity and minerality are not as high as the one I had two years ago. More generous after 1 hour breathing, citrusy notes are riper, with a bit honey and toffee notes at the end. More open than the Fleuron 2017 I had the day before.

Very much tastes like a non-dosage BdB. Crisp, linear, fizzy, tightly coiled, green apple + mineral; a bit austere, but shows up a bit more after a couple hours. Still needs time like most of the better 08s. Nice way to start the evening, but overshadowed by the fireworks to come.

Disgorged 10/23. Bruised red Apple comes right away; some more acidic Granny Smith notes after that. Meyer lemon on the finish. Feels plusher than the 5G/L dosage. Chalky finish with long sustain. From 375 and pleasantly surprised by how well this is drinking.

Pale lemon colour. Small and lively bubbles. Medium and developing nose with ripe yellow apples, ripe lemon, toast, biscuit, brioche, walnuts and wet stone. Medium taste of ripe yellow apples, ripe lemon, toast, biscuit, brioche, walnut and wet stone. Long and dry finish. High acidity. Medium body. A very good BdB Champagne. Needed 15 min in the glass to open. Drink now or over the next couple of years. Goes well as an aperitif, or with cured meat or shellfish.
