Still a killer wine. So deep and earthy with just a hint of sweet fruit.

Killer wine. Haunting earth scents on P&P. Michael Havens really understood how to create an old world feel out of Napa fruit, have not found any other winemaker that could do this at this level. Too bad he couldn't survive. I absolutely love his wines. This one is no exception with underbrush, dark fruit, leather, tobacco. All very balanced. Not tiring to drink like a lot of syrah based wines can be for me.

Fantastic tonight. Deep, deep nose of earth, barely ripe blackberries, leather. Palate is restrained for such a full bodied wine. Very very nice wine.

Day 1: Did not decant. Cassis licquor, barnyard on nose and very tight. Cassis, game and very sour, tart cherries on palate and not giving up much, but very enjoyable for this newfound Francophile. Corked rest of bottle for next night. Day 2: Dark, haunting fruit and bacon fat on nose with a little orange rind. Sweet naval orange and spice on palate. Very good. Earthy, spicy, typical Havens style. Fruit grew with time. This will be a stunner in 5 years, if I can wait.
