Classic Penfilds style, with deep brooding fruit, strong but well integrated wood. Perfectly drinking now, licorice paired with savoury eucalypt, long finish. Please to drink now. Great value for money and great example of this classic Shiraz / Cab Sauce blend

This is my totally surprising wine of the month (in what has been an indulgent month - Dec 2015). This wine had me and my guests gushing. This had been carefully cellared since purchase. This wine had power, finesse, balance and complexity. Deep fruit, licorice and some lovely meatiness but also a kind of elegance. This had me back in the cellar looking for more!!! Another confirmation to me the Shiraz Caberbet blend is a great Australian contribution to the …

No notes, but this did impress in Penfolds style, but with some value for money that seems to have generally disappeared in recent years. Better to play here than trade up to Bin 28 or the 389 blend (which with the 128 used to be good value cellar-builders)

Dark garnet with dark crimson hues. Showing aromas of cassis, dark plum, blackberry, with plenty of spices & hints of toasted oak. Smooth and medium bodied, exhibits dark plum, blackberry and violet. Mellow mouth-feel with nice full flavors. Nice long finish with soft tannins and spicy aftertaste. Aged nicely and drinking very well now.

Immediately makes me sit up and take note. Beautiful nose of plum and blackberry and bootpolish and cedar with some floral notes. A classic 'Pennies' bose. Old style shiraz/cab with good fruit (plum/dark berry), balanced oak and genuine but controlled tannin. Some class on the finish. A return to the quality mid-priced Penfolds of yesteryear?

Couple weeks ago I had 2006 Hollick Shiraz Cab, and was pretty enjoyable. After proper decanting it showed distinctive characteristics of both Shiraz and Cab. This one, being from my favorirate Aussie winery for sentimental reason, is a relative dissapointment. Initially had it through a vinturi, very powerful with finesse. Color is purple. Full body of course. Aroma is dominated by blackberry. Taste has bit of oak and plum. Spice finish. Weak but long finish. You may ask: what went …

2008 has 78 % Shiraz and 22% Cabernet Sauvignon. Dense inky red with dark crimson hues, it has aromas of cassis, plum and black berry with hints of vanilla and spices. On palate it has dark sweet fruits, black berry, plum and vanilla. Soft and fruits driven right now, it has good aging potential for oak to integrate with fruits. Soft and fine tannins leading to a good length of finishing ensure this wines is enjoyable now. Apparently it is …

Dark ruby in colour. The nose is under oak dominance followed by black fruit of mainly blackberry, black cherry and black mulberry and a chocolatey edge. A extreme New World style, very round and ripe, full and tannic, loaded with fruit and balanced by a good acidity.

Great dark colour. Nose full of berries and a hint of plum. Flavours of fruit, vanilla and a hint of chocolate. Long finish with well integrated tannins. This wine will cellar well.

Beautiful inky colour, immense fruit and sweetness on the nose held great promise. Attac is good as well as midpalate. Typical Shiraz/Cabernet notes. Short and disappointing finish. Went well with rib-eyes. Drink now.

Purple colour and a typical shiraz/cabernet nose of bramble and dark cherry - full but manages to avoid smelling sweet and confected. Big fruit but with some restraint on the finish. Matt and dense, youthful, soft tannins, one-dimensional over 2 hours but a good, solid wine for everyday drinking and it should keep well too.

Nice, solid fruit dominated wine with a good balance and complexity. Significantly better than the ordinary 'Koonunga Hill'.
