Attractive wine. Very smooth and a great advertisment for medium climate shiraz. Herbs and pepper right through the palate albeit subtle.

By the glass at Noble Rot in Wellington. Ripe dark fruit, mellowed with a bit of age. Tasty and well balanced by decent acidity, but somewhat more plush, primary, and lacking in finesse than I had expected from trying a couple of this producer's wines previously. Has a nice, fresh aroma, and tastes good, but on the simple side.

2011 vintage

{screwcap, 14.5%} Very peppery. Not unripe, but hardly generous, despite the alcohol. All cool climate and mint flavours. Medium weight. Mild gritty tannin, medium acidity. Short medium finish. Didn’t impress especially.

2017 vintage

{screwcap, 14.5%} Crimson garnet. Faintly developing nose of dark chocolate, white pepper, blackberry fruit. Quite fruity still. The palate is medium weight, bolstered by alcoholic heat with stewed black fruit, medium level dusty and grainy oak tannins. Lowish acidity. Feels very in between at the moment, although it’s still quite youthful. Medium length finish, rather elemental at the moment, but might progress with half a dozen or so years.

2017 vintage

Crimson fading to garnet. Excellent clarity, medium body. Aromas are black fruit dominant: blackberry, black currant. Also noted are prune, plum, mushroom, light toast and vanilla. On the palate, plum intensifies and a hint of smoke emerges; minimal detection of black pepper. Texture is linear, yet polished. Medium + finish, medium acidity. Impression: not quite varietally correct due to absence of spices. Strong palate presence adds to complexity. At $43 QPR well below average. Screwcap. Drink now or next year.

Green pepper and dark fruit. Opened for 2 hours to breathe. Moderate and good with sea food. Not more than a good year remains.

Still wonderful. Has only improved since our last bottle in 2016. I'm guessing at peak. Will drink the last two over the next few years.

Day 2 and it's really showing that classic mint and pepper aroma. Brambly, and meaty. Really good balance, has finesse for 14.3%. I think it is drinking well!

This was already a nice bottle, but time has been KIND to it. This is terrific at this point. Ripe blue/blackberry, some chalkiness, and fantastic menthol/eucalyptus flavor that lingers long after the wine has been swallowed. Wow. 91-92 pts.

I think this is drinking very well right now. Complex, balanced, and fresh. I feared a "punch in the face" Shiraz, but this was not at all... much more thoughtful and nimble. Black fruits with a touch of spice and a gentle thread of dry cocoa powder. 2011 was a tough year on the east side, but strong in Western Australia... so I'm hoping this might continue to evolve and improve over the next couple years? Australian wines at Crystalwines (Singapore) : Moderately sweet dark fruit with good acidity, surprisingly fresh, more Northern Rhone in style than new world. Nice. 14.5% alcohol

At a merchant tasting. Expressive nose of red fruit, earth. spices. Elegant, fresh and medium-full bodied palate, relatively light on its feet for an Aussie Shiraz. Good finish. Very well made for this price.

Had this a couple of months ago but didn't take notes. Recall liking it quite a bit, though it fell short of the 90 threshold. Wasn't a Barossa style wine, not that over-the-top bold blueberry and smoke that I personally love. 88-89 pts. Detailed notes next time.

The cooler climate shows compared to the more common SE AUS shiraz as it is certainly less rich and ripe than those and with more acidity (which is a good thing to me). Though I felt this came off as a bit thin and lacked depth or much of a mid palate. OK, but I won't be seeking out in the future.
