Sweet black currant, hoisin, blackberry, chalky, musky vanilla, gorgeous. Excited to try the next 3 bottles. Young but refreshing and beautiful.

This wine was opened last night, at which time it was pretty tight and unyielding. Now, it has opened beautifully (though it is still a big, bold wine), and right off it had a very distinctive nose of something I had smelled before. And now it occurs to me what that is: it smells just like several bottles of petite sirah I had years ago from value producer Bogle, from the Clarksburg region of California. Rule the Rhone; 10/27/2016-11/3/2016 (Northern & Southern Rhone) : One of my favorites of the mini-tasting that we did at the Perrin facility downtown. It's spicy and black currant, dusty, easy feel. The kind of wine that wants to be drunk with food.
