Deep golden. Nutty, fruity notes, stonefruit with tropical fruits. Better than its Gimmeldinger peer, but not more than excellent. Sweetness is partly integrated, so it shows nice balance of fruit, sweetness and acidity. In the medium to long finish some terpenoid notes of pines and herbal notes adding complexity and interest. 5/12/17/8. -2030.

Medium gold. Medium intense nose of stone fruits as mirabelle and apricots. On the palate as always still quite sweet, but with enough acidity to keep it in balance. More intensity on the palate as well as more nuanced with some spicy notes. Fully mature and with some years ahead. 5/11/17/8. -2026.

The first challenge was to actually get the wine opened. The cork had some mold under the capsule, but that's not that uncommon for the leaker German bottles. The cork on this one had really lost its structure, all soft and spongy so the pull just got out shreds and the Durand couldn't get a good grip on it without pushing it in. So in it went and one coffee filter into a decanter later we were back in business. …

I agree with Salil, this does drink like a Auslese. It does have some complexity but I did find the sweetness distracting. Acid was medium plus, maybe it should have been high. Had it with a Mexican Cemita and it did help tame the spice of the chipotle and balance the saltiness of the cecina. The sweetness does make it hard to pair with most non-spicy foods though. As far as the nose it isn't shy. There is a slight …

Liked this a lot, though it certainly doesn't hit the heights of a HGS era Bürgergarten Spätlese. (Perhaps drinking the '01 #2134 in the same week was a bit unfair.) This is remarkably sweet and intense on the palate - much more like an Auslese, and there's a noticeable tropical fruited character with some Scheu-like mango and papaya notes amongst the ripe citrus and apple fruit. There's good acidity here and it's very well balanced (and a great match with …

A light nose, just the slightest touch of petrol; I confess to being in a sweet Riesling funk, finding it hard to get excited about most of the wines I open. No change here, this has decent depth and intensity, very nice acidity, but just no interest or complexity, one dimensional, hint of apple juice, touch of minerality on the finish. Pleasant but unexciting.

Compared to taste in mouth, nose is restrained - light citrus fruit and mineral. In the mouth, explodes. Initially note how unctuous. First flavors are lime and pineapple. Transitions to tangello and the peach. Mid palate the sparking acidity becomes more prominent - great balance to the unctuousness. Mid palate there is a layer of lavender and sweet spice. Finish is great - with the fruit and unctuousness lingering.

not as much acidity as I recall from the last bottle and could use a bit more to cut through the richness

Honey baclava and wet stone on the nose. Flavor explodes in the mouth and is enjoyed with a good 45+ second finish (during which flavors are still lively on the tongue). Initial peach and citrus fruit, then transitioned to an unctuous lime and cinnamon in mid-palate. Great acidity that balances the wonderful fruit and thick mouthfeel. There is also a nice stoney background that runs throughout. Well done!

Pale yellow in color. Delicate nose with notes of apricot. Flavors included apricot, indian spice, chalk and lemon. Compact and concentrated with some astringency. Good acidity. Rich texture, yet vibrant as well. Nice juicy finish.

Rich sweet mouth coating wine. The first night it wasnt quite in balance, but the second night it was really singining. The thai food really brought out alot of the flavors as well. Got more of the minerals on the first night, with more of the rich tropical fruit showing the second night. Very long finish and fantastic.

Big, rich and holding onto a bit of baby fat right now. A bit sweet for a spatlese... almost like an auslese, but absolutely stunning acidity. Tropical fruits, minerals and length. Fantastic.
