Amici Cellars has long been one of the quieter overachievers in Sonoma, sourcing from some of the most coveted Russian River Valley sites and letting the fruit speak rather than chasing extraction or scores. The 2017 vintage in California was exceptional — a warm, dry growing season that produced wines of concentration and structural integrity, with harvest conditions that allowed for full physiological ripeness without sacrificing acidity. Eight years in, this bottle is drinking beautifully. The nose opens with ripe …

To me, this is a “botched” PN from Sonoma for me. Amici does a great cab but don’t force that style on a Pinot! This was a bit too harsh for me. Admittedly I love burgundy PN over California, but can get down with both. This one pushed a little too hard for me and lost the finesse of PN.

Best pinot we’ve tasted in a LONG time.

Sorry previous reviewers, you just don’t get it… this is hedonistic Cali Pinot, not Burgundy! The fruit is ripe , the bouquet enticing and the body like velvet. Pure Russian River, pure enjoyment and it gets me high today on 04/20 without resorting to the herb…if you don’t enjoy this you really don’t know wine.

Cellared for three years in optimal conditions, popped and poured, enjoyed a few glasses over the course of a Saturday evening. It was ok. Paid $40 for it in 2020, maybe expecting a little more at this price point. See ITSNOTME's comments below, they hit remarkably close to my own experience with this bottle. I would agree with other comments a long decant might help. Will try that on the two other bottles of this in my cellar.

Dark red pinot from Russian River valley. Aromas are not sweet , more spice. Fuller bodied pinot compared to the burgundy tasted along side it ! For me there is black fruit present but the baking spice was front and center. I liked it but in a blind tasting I might have considered it a Zinfandel given the spice. I enjoyed the $25 burgundy more than this $40 RRV pinot. However it shows the variability in Pinots from different areas. …

Classic pinot noir profile. Top notes of cherry and baking spice. Well balanced, good acid & mild tannins. A bit pricey but not terribly so.

Not singing tonight. Seems to be a lot of bottle variation with this wine. Dense, dark, syrupy, some spice, dark fruit with no vibrancy.

Medium ruby hue. Aromas of baking spice, cherry, smoke, raspberry, and vanilla. Medium body; soft, medium tannins; medium-plus acidity. Flavors of red fruit with a hint of spice and vanilla. A lush, velvety texture and a long, satisfying finish. Delightful with food or on its own.

Fantastic Pinot noir! Red and black fruits and some spice and oak. Better than most PN as I think they are too fruity. This one has many dimensions, and was great with shrimp and grits. Needs 90 minutes to open up. The only thing holding me back from buying more is the price. A bit steep at $39.99

Earthy on the nose and light/dry fruit on the palate. Decent Pinot, but wish I would’ve read reviews beforehand.. I only decanted for 45 minutes and read that 2 hours may have been better.

Plum Market Fall Luxury Tasting (Chicago, IL) : For the appellation pretty restrained. The fruit isn't over the top, and shows a little red rather than black. The palate is still pretty large-scaled, and there isn't too much subtlety. Slight kick of oak on the finish.

Plum Market Luxury Tasting (Bad Hunter - Chicago IL) : Walk around tasting. Sweet fruit with rich, fleshy character that still maintains restraint. Good now in that rich RRV style.

Amici wines : Deep ruby color. The nose shows spiced cranberry sauce, raspberries and strawberries, along with a nice mix of rhubarb, pepper, cola and cedar. Medium/full-bodied with soft tannins and some medium acidity. Juicy cherries, raspberries, strawberry jam, with flavors of cola, rhubarb, rose potpourri, menthol and cinnamon. Accessible and fun but this has some solid depth. Highly delicious. Stainless steel fermented aged in French oak 13 months.
