Wines and food to go with a magnum of Paul Sauer 2014 (Lorne) : Purple garnet colour. Lovely nose - rosehip? Super engaging on the palate - some discussion about where it must be from - if N Rhone then Hermitage, yes, I can get that, but there’s this hint of an acid kick on the finish - almost like it’s trying hard not to be new world. Northern Rhône style expressions (violet, leather, herbs, roast aromas). Medium bodied and almost hesitant this wine lacks depth and complexity, fading out rapidly into unfinished tannins and even some bitterness. Not up to expectations, and definitively not up to the (hefty) price tag.

Dinner in La Mere Germaine Chateauneuf-du-Pape with winemakers Dominique and Marie. : In the bouquet rustic and mineral flavors. On the palate firm dark berries, leather, chocolate, good acidity, tannin and minerals. A Syrah alright. Excellent wine.
