Deep ruby. Dark fruits on the nose—sour cherry and cassis. Full body, heavy tannins, and medium+ acidity. Plum, violets, and black fruit on the front. Nice plush tannins and great balance. Great drinking now and will improve with age.

Drunk over two evenings, better on the first evening. Deep, bright ruby but some browing at the rim. An attractive nose of blackberries, black cherries, dark plums, iron and high cacao chocolate. Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of integrated chocolate oak, earth, wood spice, black plum, blackberry, blackcurrant. You know how people talk about how you can find great Bordeaux for under $40, this is not one of those wines. Tried at GGs BT. Found it a touch green, acidic, harsh. Hint of vanilla on the nose. Chewy, tannic but no mid palate, dropped away quickly. Disappointed.

Second wine of Gazin. Tried at GG’s Bordeaux tasting. $108 retai (NZ)l. Like the Gazin 08 tried a few weeks earlier, found it a touch green, acidic, harsh. Hint of vanilla on the nose, no mid palate. Rated by others but not for me, yes chewy, tannic but hollow mid-palate.

Dense, sweet black cherry nose. A fruit dominated wine that does not rely on oak. Slightly rough in the mouth. Cherry, fruit forward. Very good concentration, serious fruit power. Slightly unbalanced. I imagine this wine will age and improve but for now it is a good wine with balance issues that may or may not resolve themselves with time.

Decanted for 2 hours. Lovely full nose of cherries. The initial taste was very disappointing with the promise of the nose not reaching the mouth. But the wine developed over the evening proving very enjoyable experience. Tannis are still evident which looks like there is still a bit more development to go.

Short note from memory. Quite deep, typical East Side aromas, with some earth and spice - quite full in the mouth with good balance and structure and nice tannins. very nice wine.

Nose full of dark fruits, with new leather, fresh new oak. Palate is tight and structure up front, very tannic and light finish. The nose is quite muted and the palate is hard to access.

3 Dec 2008 Too much of new world lately and decided on an old world to go with grilled american sirlion steak. 2004 L'Hospitalet de Gazin (France, Bordeaux, Pomerol) 13%. Greeted by a soft seductive bouquet of sweet berries, blackcurrant and cedar undertones. The elegant palate completed with cherries and notions of truffles and licorice. Good silky finish. Lovely. From a halve bottle and left me wanting more. Drinking beautifully now.

Jean Pierre Moueix Bordeaux Rouges (Caveau Vinum) : Darker than the magdelaine but still showing tinges of browning age. Really beautiful bouquet of mushrooms, dark cherries with some ginseng root. Elegant dark cherries delivered in a velvety mouthfeel. Lovely stuff for NOW drinking.
