What a difference a year makes... Now, a pleasure to drink, a "simple" Bourgogne that belies the nomenclature. Classic Pinot Noir notes of middle red fruits, a hint of sous bois, and refreshing light tart acidity. Noticeable fizz on the palate at first, fortunately it disappeared quickly. Plenty of barnyard on the nose along with absolutely gorgeous savory fruit mixing cherry, blackberry and cranberry and wet forest floor. It’s wild, unadulterated and just really expressive. On the palate it is welcoming and generously fruity with a chewy mouthfeel and quite a bit of structure underneath. “Grand Chaliot” is actually a lieu-dit in Nuits-Saint-Georges and more singular expression compared to their “standard” Bourgogne. Popped and poured, enjoyed over two hours. Lignier's 2018's Bourgogne "Grand Chaliot" is quite Mediterranean in style to me, a bit blowsy with black currant and strawberry and wild herb aromas on the nose and noticeable heat on the palate (14.5% ABV per label, 14.7% per JG and NM). Would be a fine BTG at a restaurant but you can do better for a simple bottle at home, particularly if you prefer a brighter, lighter style for your regional Burgundies.

This is on the bolder side of Burgundy. Punching at 14.5% abv this is garnet with tears. On the nose blackberries, dark oak, wood resin. On the palate nice balance between acid and tannins with oaky dark fruit. Lacks the nuance of the Pinots of a lighter touch but brings enough fruit to the party without being too heavy. Definitely Morey is style.

Better than many Bourgogne rouge bottles I've had in the hands of lesser producers. This bottle overdelivers. Not cheap for Passetoutgrains but at ~$21 on sale, this would be my house red. Tastes more of pinot noir than gamay...very quaffable and perfect for a weeknight dinner. I feel slightly embarrassed to love Lignier's style since it's so easy to like but every bottle I've had from them have been excellent...from this Passetoutgrains to their signature Clos De La Roche.
