A Saturday in Blair, ON : This wine pours light straw in the glass. The nose is of gooseberry, fresh cut grass, white currant, kiwi, chalk, candied mint, and smoky struck flint. The palate enters on chalk and white currant with light grassy accents. Medium plus acid and lovely chalk and candied mint round out the lovely mid-palate. The texture here is immaculate. The finish is long showing a distinctive candied mint note I occasionally get in white burgundy. I …

Grassy and somewhat understated, this bottle was in fine form, albeit not too exciting. A touch of the hay aromatics I often find in 2020 Chablis, I can’t tell if it’s additional acid or what. But the wine is bright and charming enough.

Initially closed nose reveals lemon, grapefruit, green apples, flint, and chalk. Crisp acidity balanced with the geology of the Loire, showing beautiful chalkiness and mineral flavours - a real reflection of the earth on which these grapes are grown. Long finish of the drying chalk and green/yellow fruit flavours. Pairs superbly with a creamy pasta seafood dish I made for my dad’s birthday. Highly recommend as an introduction to Domaine Didier Dageneau.

Dagueneau’s “entry level” SB, not an optimal bottle unfortunately: slightly oxidised, sherry note, grass, green apple, eucalyptus, soft honey, citrus minerals, lychee, okay finish.

What a pleasure bomb. Full power and structure at the same time. The bouquet convinces with grapefruit, some pomelo and buttery, brioche notes, as well as calcaire phenolic notes. Will have a great live ahead.

Definitely on the richer side for loire Sauvignon blanc but really beautiful stuff. Hay, orchard fruit, light oak, herbacious. Served blind to friends, got called as burgundy. Needs age to round out but already drinking well.

Ripe year for Dageneau but marked by that leesy house character that offers a little cheese rind and funk. Soft on the palate with balanced acid and alcohol. Lovely drink.

Our own Oktoberfest (Oktobre, Paris) : A wine one definitely wants to love from the start and delivers in that part. Our friends who had this before said this was not the proper thing and maybe an off bottle or a vintage issue? The nose is not the most classic Sauvignon Blanc but the finish is textbook. Light in general but not simple, grassy, light citrus , light asparagus too on the finish. Requires good chilling especially on warm nights. …

(17-/20) Entry-level white from Dagueneau, but already ridiculously good. Elegant, powerful and smooth. Beautiful bitters, nice minerality. Medium intense aromas of white blossom, gooseberry, white grapefruit, lemon, lychee, mandarin, grass, asparagus, wet stone, flint, chalk. Dry wine, high acidity, medium body, pronounced flavour intensity, long finish. 13% ABV - Prestige lunch @ Wijnbar Pinot

Wow. Densely fruited with soft lees: hay, orchard fruit. On the palate: lovely acidity and density, fantastic depth. Lovely fruit and a long finish. Gorgeous stuff.

The creaminess of the lees aging is countered by lightness, and an exceptionally balanced acidity. Chamomile creeps into the palette, but the intense savoriness and spice have their chorus. A flinty, sheened quality pervades. Lovely stuff.

White and yellow fruits, minerals, hay and citrus in the bouquet. On the palate minerals, tight and focused with good acidity, a touch of bitterness and a great length. 92+

Sancerre vs Pouilly-Fumé (K&L Wine Merchant - Redwood City) : Some sort of white berries on the nose with white and orange-yellow flowers. Very lifted floral aromas accompanied by a gentle sweetness from some pears. This has a nice perfume to it. Palate showed clean pear notes, a thick but light honey note, gentle spice on the finish with sparkly minerals. A gentle tree bark note and straw as well. Loved the fruit on this. Second favorite of the lineup.

Just delicious. Beautifully ripe, almost exotic, and at the same time, nervy, steely acid with a hint of lemon zest. I'll save the other bottle for a few years if I can keep my hands off it.

Superb. Elegant and ethereal. Absolutely none of that Sauvignon Blanc cut grass nonsense. It's all citrus fruit and minerals. Pomelo, grapefruit, ocean air, salinity, matchstick, lemongrass, and fresh rain. Flawlessly balanced, so easy to drink without being cloying or sweet. A full mouthfeel with broad flavors and a long, piquant finish. Stellar!

SLDS July 2022 : Lemon, vanilla, light herbs on the nose. Plenty of rich flavour on the palate, clean acidity and good length. Approachable already in a clean, pure style.
