Classic aroma of sour cherry, leather, toasted star anise and graphite on the nose. Palate echoed the nose, fresh and persistent from entry to finish. Spiced box and aniseed flavour defined the rich mid-palate. It finishes with an earthy and leathery notes. Still young, can age for the next 3-5 years. Retasted in Jan 2023, the nose has evolved and started to show secondary aroma of stewed fruits, leather and roasted cocoa. Fresh and clean with a good lingering finish. …

Brilliant ruby. Elegant aroma of dry floral fruit. Dark cherry, dried prune mineral, dry herbs, coffee, dry earth, hint of leather. Fine and elegant tannins that soften over 2hr, Medium-full bodied, layered complexity with long finish.

Doing some work in the cellar I pulled this and realized there was seepage. Set aside to open. Very pleasant, typical Brunello. Not exceptional. Certainly doesn’t make the case for 97 as an outstanding vintage.

Was worried when opened it. Slightly off nose. Color and body were excellent! After a few minutes in the glass the wine proved to be an excellent example of the 97 Tuscans!

Based on the drinking window for this wine (I.e. Ending 2015), I am pleasantly surprised by how well it is performing. While it is very mature, it is not in serious decline. It has notes of dark, dusty red cherries and worn saddle leather. It has a medium finish with a balanced acidity. Very nice.

Like my last bottle, the fill level was high shoulder and the cork was soaked through its length, but the wine was perfectly fine. Like other tasters, I do get some of that barnyard nose, but not to the extent of a good burgundy. On the palate, there are notes of sweet dark fruits, dusty cherries and saddle leather. Brunello di Montalcino Masterclass Led by Monica Larner (Taberna wine academy) : Blind wine 10: Plenty of barnyard, leather, herbaceous, mushroom and medicinal. With elegant and perfume edge. Sweet fruits palate along with other secondary notes shown on the nose but it has more fruits than the nose suggest. Good finish. Ready to drink too. (90). This bottle had a high shoulder level fill and the cork was soaked all the way through. However, the wine was perfectly fine. It had the usual notes of dark, dusty cherries (sweet cherries) and saddle leather on the finish. The finish was long and enjoyable. This is of course a very mature Brunello.

The wine is showing a tawy edge, amber color thoughout. It reminds me of dusty cherries, saddle leather. Very nice drinking now. I had half the bottle the next day and it held up extremely well so I think it has a few years ahead of it. Nice Brunello!

A smokey nose with a hint of dried fruit. Purple-red in appearance, looking a little tawny at the edge. Very smokey with a barbequey quality. Some leather and dark cherry. Very enjoyable.

Excellent nose of leather, cherry and spice, intense palate of soft cherry fruit, spice, earth and leather, with excellent acidity levels and good tannic structure. Still has quite a number of years ahead of it, but is beautiful now.

1997 Brunellos (FBM's House) : No detailed notes - dinner with FBM. If I recall correctly, this had a very pleasant slightly sweet leather on the palate. Very nice wine.

WIML92 No notes. Tasted from magnum. Dark garnet color in the glass, clear hue throughout. Nose of berries and cherries that carries through to the palate. Medium to bright acidity, medium tannins and body. Drink or hold.

Christine's Going Away Party: This was surprisingly soft and accessible. Medium-full bodied with sweet dusty cherry fruit. Not bad.
