Riesling SWAG 2025 (Restaurant Hobenköök, Hamburg) : Glass: Zwiesel Duo White wine. We had so many wonderful sweet wines this night. 1937 TBA, 1959 TBA, Egon, Keller, Haag. But this 1983 Abtsberg was my personal favor and I had to restrain myself not to kill poor Marc’s whole bottle. It had not the history and age of the other bottles or the creaminess of some of the Eltz wines. But for me it has the best of all worlds: Laser …

Tuscany Tasting + X (@Private location, Schwäbisch Gmünd) : Quick notes for my own memory, no full tasting note, no rating. Not 100% perfect bottle, certainly past peak, but still a beauty. All components still tightly integrated and balanced. Wonderful acidity and liveliness, sugar has blended in. Classic Ruwer notes. Long and fruity, herbaceous finsish. 92

Yes, this is a 35 year old wine that I originally bought on release and have patiently stored in the coolest part of my cellar. It comes from the Maximin Grunhauser estate in the coolest and highest part of the Mosel River Valley, who is famous for the immortality and exquisite quality of its Rieslings. You might also think that a wine this old would be completely ready to drink straight out of the bottle. But no, it took three …

Slightly past peak but displaying mellowed dry sweetness with light honey and floral notes backstopped by dry pear. Nice wine to end a dinner with.

Best part was the nose. A bit thin on the palate but improved over 45 minutes.

Leo's Blind Tasting Group - March '13 edition (Hearth, NYC) : Oxidized. A real shame.

Rieslingfeier - BYOB Main Event (Rouge Tomate, NYC) : From magnum, brought by Justin C and Danielle K. Bright and lemony, but that's all I got from the quick taste I had.

Mostly Rieslings (old and young) at Grand Sichuan (NYC) : Also dead. Darn it. Really oxidative and impossible to get past the aromas just from the bottle.

Wax, honey, vailla cream, citrus zest on finish. Still fruity - years to go - fabulous

Preston Wine Club Annual Dinner (Preston) : AP No: 3 536 014-15-84 A ripe, oldish riesling nose: some smoke, some honey and a few gassy mercaptans. Remarkably little mineral austerity and remarkably little petrol development. The attack is elegant, rounded and mature and completely distinctively riesling. Very well balanced; just off-dry overall, but the considerable acidity contributes a lot to that. Huge acidity on the finish, but it doesn't quite have the fruit to fully balance it out completely on …
