Chateau Hostens-Picant, Sainte-Foy-Bordeaux

Dominated by espresso, mocha, smoke, herbs and red fruits, the wine is forward, open, soft, bright, salty and already easy to drink. 85-87

Bangkok Trip Feb 2020; 2/6/2020-2/9/2020 (Singapore-Bangkok) : Deep pinkish ruby, nearly homogeneous to the edges. Aromas of pepper, paprika, cherry, and some slight grassy sense. Fair acids, lots of tannin structure, with some slight florals, medium-ripe cherry and blackberry, tomato leaf, grass, and a slight whitish smoke, which I gather is attributed to the unique terroir of Saint Foy. Finish was fair at best, but a pretty good quality overall

Straits Wines - Wine Fiesta 2019 (Grand Hyatt Singapore) : A good black fruit punch, cassis and blackberry. Grass, some tar, flint smokes, and charcuterie. Intense in flavour, but velvety and soft. Indeed well-made. A fine example from Sainte-Foy

Earthy black cherry and roasted coffee beans kick things off nicely before moving on to the soft, sweet, forward, blast of juicy cherries and dark chocolate on the palate and in the finish.

Licorice, smoke and black raspberry scents open to a soft, sweet, supple, forward, open wine, which will offer its charms on release.

Fresh enough nose. The palate is a bit unexciting. Somewhat tart overall. 84-86

Very dark color, and the highest octane so far here at the La Riviere tasting. 14.5% alcohol. Visually displays the Kirchenfenster (legs) as the Germans say. Nose is spicy and fruit driven, so promising. The palate displays a roasted aspect, which lends some monotony to the experience, albeit fruit and acidity lend briskness. Somewhat hard on the finish, with drying oak derived tannins... Well, if you like the style, score higher :-)

Ripe, round, sweet plums, and juicy raspberries, with a sweet, soft, black cherry finish. 86-88 Pts
