Similar but cleaner experience to last time: less barnyard funk, more Vosne spice, so overall a better score is merited. More noticeable stalk notes and tannins more forceful at the finish. Score: 93. Relative to expectations: +

Very light diluted crimson with some rose . Non-descript nose . Incredibly crisp tannins with crabapples, slightly green raspberries, intense cranberries, with bing red cherries coming in towards the long finish. Delicious .

From memory. 1 hr slow o and should have been more. Tons of Vosne spices — 5 spice sure, but also some very earthy turmeric — that overwhelmed the red berries. Meat and loam notes in the bouquet as well. Broad shouldered with a lot of cough-inducing tannins that made themselves known on the nose as well. I also recall a lot of barnyard funk on the nose — very cow dung — that took an additional hour to blow …

Coravin fun - Burgundy (My place, Kent Street) : From Coravin. Touch of struck match reductiveness, sweet spice, dark berry and jubey cherry, smidge of sweet spice, oak. Quite red hued cherry fruit with plenty of woody spice and tannic grip in support initially before ascending to dominance. A little bitter on the finish. Hmm

This was still quite dark brooding despite decanting and leaving it all evening. Just refused to open up and reveal anything. Nice fruit concentration, more black fruits with a nice structure.

An Afternoon Tasting Burgundy (Chevalier Fine Wines - Elmhurst IL) : Also a great aromatic start, very classically Vosne with red cherry and berry along Asian five spice and perfumed hints. Harder, less accessible palate, seemingly requiring more patience. But then final pour from the bottle seemed very tired when re-visited the 2nd day.

From Coravin. Aromas of bacon fat blow off with time to show a little blackberry , savoury spice, smidge of cream and cassis. In the mouth it's sourly juicy, a little sharp, tangy, dry and tightly textured. Very elbows. Needs time and fatty protein on this tasting.

Not at all unapproachable, but not yet fully mature. I often think of Clavelier's wines as stern and unapproachable in their youth (a bit like Barthod, maybe), but this was not that. Elegant and red-fruited with nice mineral tension. This will be better with time, but it's quite nice now.

Terroir-istes International - France, Burgundy, Vosne-Romanee (Overgaauw Wine Estate) : (Tasted Blind): A light to medium ruby with a more garnet rim. A distinct bouquet of cordite and crushed stone on first nose before revealing red plum, rhubarb and black cherry. A peculiar entry that is reductive showing cordite followed by mineral and stone - unusual for a red wine! It opens slowly to show plum and rhubarb, but the acidity has a sour rhubarb-tinged feel, and the texture is …

A nice glass. Generous enough to the nose and well balanced in the mouth. Perhaps the vintage still takes time to harmonize the various components of the wine. The feeling is of a great wine but still not completely expressed. A right mix of strength and elegance. Very territorial and oriental. We are in Vosne!

Fantastic showing. Poured single blind in a lineup of heavy hitters, I actually thought this was a top tier grand cru. Has that mix of power and complexity without being heavy in the mouth. A treat.

Bright, tart fruit and mineral nose, some kitty litter. Tart in the mouth as well, but then hard to stop drinking. My favorite weeknight wine without doubt. Need to stock up again. Rebuy: actively.

Blind 2010 Burgundy (Brian and Jennifer's) : 2010 Burgundy Blind Tasting: Soft, plush, soft medium tannins, detected what seemed like a whiff of Pommard earthy-iron, slightly herbal with a reductive quality giving it lift. Lots of Pinot Perfume going on. Should have been a give-away for VR, but went with Pommard, which would have had a more rustic character and not as polished (think Gigondas vs. CdP?). Brought home VR traits of expressive spicy red fruits, and a slightly soft …

Hits the sweet spot for me; very light, bright, vibrant, and expressive. Glad to have a decent amount.

Light aromatics of fresh berry fruit. Tart on the palate showing cranberry and cherry. A big hit of acid on the finish which calmed down on day two. A charming daily drinker but lacking anything interesting.

Reduction does block the nose a bit. Behind it there is maybe some meat or spice peaking through. Hard to tell. The palate is just pure, focused, high toned red fruit. There is sharp acidity on the finish but not in a bad way. So pure and focused it almost seems one dimensional. Not as rich or sweet and enjoyable as the Aux Brulees at this time. Lacking the magic of the 2010 Dujac Beaux Monts.

Very distinct and very Vosne. Some reduction on the nose, but the fruit is singing. Elegant with lots of interesting minerals. This wine has personality. Fine.
