Still going strong! Dark red and black fruits, some tobacco and forest vegetation. Good acidity and well integrated tannins. Drink immediately!

A beautiful bottle of Admiral. This 2005 is much better than the mediocre vintage might suggest. It has aged gracefully and does not feel tired yet. Rich dark fruit, dark cherries and blackberries, milk chocolate and a hint of coconut, almost fully resolved tannins, excellent depth and drinkability, juicy with fine acidity and never too rich. This is another lovely bottle and unfortunately it is the last from our cellar. - 91 points

An absolutely marvellous and pristine bottle of the Admiral 2005. Probably the best bottle so far. Excellent balance and simply delicious. Youthful and perfectly ripe fruit, wonderful structure with soft tannins, tasty barrel flavors, nougat, tobacco... Gorgeous! - 92 points

A beautiful wine. Still drinking well. Best on day one, some oxidation on the second day. Finish over the next 1-2 years. - 91 points

A lovely bottle, almost silky now, slightly oxidized dark berry fruit, chocolate, tobacco and vanilla flavors, quite fresh and with medium length. This is still drinking very well, but for my palate it is slightly past its peak. - 90 points

Smooth as silk - what a pleasure (hard to compare to a "younger" Admiral). No decanting, pleasant CS nose to me (awkward for 70% Zweigelt), also a bit on the round/sweet side in the mouth, close to zero tannins left and very low acidity. Good medium body and finish. This goes down like oil. Drink now !

Man merkt das Alter, schon relativ ausgezehrt; in der Nase angenehm mit Tabak, Schokolade, etwas rote Beeren; im Mund eher spröde und eckig, doch noch im Rahmen, mit mittellangem Abgang. Trinken!

Dark fruit nose with chocolate notes and some tobacco. Dark fruits also on the palate, slightly chewy tannins, tobacco and smokey beef jerky notes. Good finish. Time to drink. - 90 points

Very fragrant nose. At peak now. Deep dark fruit core, fine smoky and vanilla oak flavors, a smell and taste of coconuts and chocolate ("Bounty" chocolate bar) that I had not observed so strongly with previous bottles, a hint of bacon, very silky tannins. Excellent wine for the vintage. Drink now. - 91 points

Great wine with a wonderful smell on the nose. Still at peak, but I believe it won't get any better and may start to decline slowly now. Deep dark fruit core, excellent smoky and vanilla oak flavors, a hint of bacon, silky tannins. Excellent wine, especially for the vintage. Drink now. - 91 points

Carafage for 1 hour: Obvious oak notes of mocha, chocolate and nougat on the nose, ripe red berries, a bit sweetish. In the mouthvery smooth and developed, no signs of age but of integration, acidity, berry and mocha aromas go hand in hand, only very little tannins left, longish. Excellent wine right now, no need to hurry but this is peaking and will stay where it is for a few years.

Not showing its age in terms of colour, still very dark, purple core with slight discolouration towards the rim. Dark cherry fruit on the lovely, perfumed nose: slightly stemmy, creamy and smoky, undergrowth, fine notes of mint. On the palate open and round, still decent grip, slightly spicy, creamy, elegant and fine. Good character of fruit, very long and slightly tart finish. In a great place right now, but no rush. Excellent. 91-93

True to the Pöckl style but not as rich as some 'better' vintages of Admiral. Lots of tobacco, dark chocolate and quality oak on nose and palate, Bordeaux style, dark and extracted, quite tannic still, both tart and a bit light on the palate. Dark berry fruit and some light bitterness on the medium finish. A wine that calls for hearty meat dishes, not so nice for drinking it without food. Very good for 2005 and will hold several more …
