Excellent Costers del Segre wine (subzone Les Garrigues) sourced from different vineyard plots on the north side of the mountain range ‘Serra de la Llena’ (village of El Vilosell, province of Lleida, Catalunya). A blend of old Samsó (Carinyena) with Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon (limestone soils) that was aged for fourteen months in one and two-year-old French oak barrels. PnP at La Gastronomica in Barcelona. Initially very closed. After 30 minutes opened with vanilla and dark fruits. The dark fruits carried to the palate with dark plum and maybe some oak. Very balanced given the 14.5 alcohol. Good with the scallops, ribs and diced eggplant w/molasses and lemon. I’ll look for this back in the US.
