Easing into Paulee Weekend with Musigny & Krug (Noreetuh - NYC) : Rich, ripe and boisterous right now. Fun, tasty with plenty of flash but but lacks sophistication. Coin toss on whether this is ever a great vintage.

2006 vintage

Still young but approachable with a decant. Still has some oak to resolve. Floral nose of blackberry and cherry and a big finish with many many years left. I look forward to resampling many times in the future to see its progression towards apex.

2015 vintage

a pleasure to be able to try this but I dont think this bottle represented the full offering. a bit dull and lacking the fireworks one might expect from this hallowed ground

Magnum. Pure cherry red. Refined sweet berries, faintly earthy. Silky, vibrant flavours, elegant, perfect acidity, great length, outstanding.

The nose is fantastic—an outright bouquet of red fruit, led by red cherry, with ripe strawberry, a touch of raspberry, and some lovely minerality, like river rocks after rain. The palate, though, is very young. In a blind tasting, I’d easily call this 2016 or younger. It really needs a long decant—at least two hours—to start opening up. My bottle. This needed a good hour of air, then bang. More power than the ‘99. More primary with some emerging sous bois framing the stomy cherry core. Lovely just at the very start of its drinking window. Next bottle in 2027. 95-96

Excellent showing. Still quite youthful palate with plenty of stony cherry but a more autumnal nose. Long finish. 95

The color has settled into a translucent brick-tinged ruby, more autumnal than youthful, signaling a wine that has moved fully into its reflective phase. The nose is measured and layered, built more on nuance than overt perfume. Showed incredibly well! Classy red burgundy with aromas of dark fruit and underbrush. Palate replete with delicious ripe black fruit, wee bits of freshness, and silky smooth tannins. Such a hedonistic, well balanced wine, with no rough edges and decently long length. I have 1 more bottle in the coffers, but absolutely no point in waiting! Delicious right after pulling cork, better at 30 min, and stable for 2-3 hours after that!

1999 vintage

Finally im convinced of decanting, at least this one. Opened in the morning, letting stand covered (not recorked) until double decanting back into the cleaned bottle. tasted in the end of the evening past 9 and was wotn in a challenging setup. Exotic nose, red to blue fruit, length, structure, lovely aftertaste. Not sure if i would have guessed it in a double blind setting, but so good 97-99. No tomato this time.

2015 vintage

Keeps getting better and better. Darkly hued, opaque, with fabulously spicy nose of baking spices, menthol, licorice, and dark cherry conserves. No evidence of excessive alcohol, no bitterness, simply fresh and expressive. Velvety mouthfeel is a pleasure. Perfumed and delicate but with the good bones to ensure even more rapture down the road.

Pronounced nose intensity with notes of mushroom, toast, cooked red cherry, tea. Medium+ acidity and medium tannin. Long finish.

1996 vintage

Showing beautifully with the brighter leaner (but in a good way) hallmark of '11 vintage. Medium color, on the lighter side actually. Fresh effusive nose of cassis, herbs de Provence, clove, black licorice and forest floor. Silky and caressing on the palate, with its pedigree showing through - bright jazzy fruit leaning towards raspberry / blackberry / cassis. Delightful.

2011 vintage

PnP Does not feel 25 years old at all. Needs 20-30 minutes to start to really show and let the nose be less dusty Cherry, dark berry fruit. Really delicious with nice concentration

1972 vintage

This bottle was not as open and giving as the last showing quite structured and tight at first. It opened upon nicely in the glass to show incredibly pure cherry fruit with strong mineral notes and a very fine, silky texture. The finish is powerful and filled with a strong dark cherry mineral crunch that's somewhat explosive. This bottle needs more time. 94+

Beautifully lifted nose with red fruits and strawberries, showing that classic Musigny perfume. The bouquet was gorgeous right from the start, though the wine itself felt tight early on and needed a few hours of air to really open up. With time, it became lush and expressive, the palate silky with resolved tannins and a lovely long finish. From a half bottle. A balanced, complex nose of black fruit, violets, spices and slight oak influence, without tertiary development yet. There is some sweetness on the palate, with vibrant acidity and significant fine tannins on the finish. I was hoping in half bottle format this would be at peak drinking, but more patience is required.

2006 vintage

From a 375mL bottle with a pristine cork. Dark ruby in the glass with some rust at the rim. The fruit profile leans strongly towards the dark end of the Pinot spectrum with black cherries and blackberries, but with some brighter red fruit also making an appearance in the background. PNP at Roja, Jay’s bottle. Good fill and sound cork. This was good but not great. Deep red color, no sign of age. Black fruits, mushroom and a slightly roasted quality to the nose, reminiscent of a 2003 red burgundy. Very deep, extracted and concentrated core of cherry fruit, savory elements combined with good acidity.The texture was glossy and four square, with some tannins showing on the finish.

2001 vintage

Whooshes out of the glass are aromas of dried violet, perfumed and with a layer of dried earth. Breathtaking nose. Still quite tight on the palate despite approaching 20 years, deep and dark, you sense the depth of the wine but perhaps still need time to unwind.

2006 vintage

Dense, concentrated and with more tannins than a 5 yo Barolo, the only reason to open the wine at this stage is to stump others in a blind tasting. If you do insist on drinking now, make sure it has at least 4-5 hour decant (as per review below). I much preferred the 2013 vintage for right now.

2018 vintage

Still quite primary for a ten year old wine, showing loads of glossy blackberry and plum fruit on the palate. Pretty nose with fresh floral notes. Lots of good material here and an excellent young Burgundy and I'm guessing it will continue to improve as it matures.

2015 vintage

Dark ruby in color. Soaring aromas of black raspberry, black cherry, wild dark florals, forest-floor, black tea leaves and crushed stone. Incredibly powerful but also elegant palate showing waves of reddish-black berries, very good acidity, gentle tannins, lots of floral perfume on an endless and mineral laden finish.

Complex nose of dark fruit and spice, expansive and layered. Palate lighter than expected from the aromatics, with fine tannins and fresh acidity. Balanced and elegant, showing clarity rather than weight. Still young; additional cellaring will likely enhance depth and integration.

2010 vintage

La Vigne d'Or 10th anniversary charity dinner : Quite approachable and less dense than I expected for a Vogüé, '96 acidity did not stick out. Pleasurable if not profound.

The nose, usually the highlight of Musigny, felt muted—missing the soaring floral perfume expected from this vineyard. On the palate, the fruit leaned a touch too jammy for the vintage, lacking the lift and definition that you come to expect when there’s producer really shows out

2007 vintage

Some Wine Tasted Watching the Chicago Air & Water Show; 8/16/2025-8/17/2025 (Chicago, IL) : Magnum. I haven't had this wine in nearly 15 years and time has been kind to it. Still plenty of ripe black and red cherry with plenty of muscle, but just as nuanced undertones coming through over the course of several small tastes. So much here, this will last and develop into something even more exciting over the decades to come

Pristine cork. Darker ruby, but translucent. Immediate, persistent, curtain-like nose of full savory violets, a bit of musky cellar, bright berry, plum, lively earth, and iron filings, all in balance. Layers of velvety but aristocratic raspberry and cherry fruit cut with noble earth, briar, and molecular iron on the palate. Beautifully integrated still-bright acidity balancing smoothed tannin. Taco Wednesday (Chicago, IL) : No. 421. The nose on this is really weird. It comes across slightly stewy, but also has some dirtiness that isn't pleasant at all. I was brave enough to take a small taste, and thus conclude that this bottle has one of the greatest differences between nose and palate. Still needs 3-5 years. Big wine. 4 hour splash decant was not enough for this to loosen up although it did improve over this period. Tannin into the finish and tight. Hopefully the fruit survives while this mellows.

2005 vintage

The nose was kalascopic with wild berries, animal, fur, herbs and vitamins. Palate was dense and powerful. Good weight and structure, but shy to the 97 Vogue Les Amoureuses I had few weeks ago. 92+

1997 vintage

Only small taste but this was special. Very dense and dark, with a black cherry character. Nose was a bit shy, though hints of development. Intense lengthy finish that shows its pedigree. Have to say this could still use 5-10yrs in bottle given its youthful fruit and concentration.

1993 vintage

Opened at Whale in HK. Slow-oxed for a while before enjoying. This was more open than I thought it would be, but still left me feeling like this should have either been aged longer, or given even more air. Quite dark for a Musigny and an 02, but had a lot of power and purity. One of the better Vogüé's that I've had, and thanks to A for sharing!
