Open for violin recital. The cork disintegrated trying to pull it out, and was a bit spongy, but the wine was nice. Medium body, with the strawberry, pomegranate, cheery notes. Still sweet, a crowd pleaser.

Winefool Going Away Party and Cellar Depletion (Jack's Bistro - Chicago IL) : Tasted 2 days ago, note from memory. Getting tired but clearly still alive. Better than the 2006 Koplen, but not as good as the Sonoma Coast 2007.

PnP, spaghetti and meatballs night. Medium body with clear liquidy and glycerol. Medium strawberry on the nose, with the pomegranate reduction braise so typical. On the palate, watery fruity notes, again strawberry. There's some deeper bruised fruit notes as well, and some evidence that this is a pinot. Solid.

Was waiting for a life changing event to open our first-ever bottle of KB purchased, but decided that Wednesday, Dec 1st was fine. Wine is starting to rust just a bit, but still full of fruit and complexity. Cherries come through, but so does a hint of licorice and many other harmonious elements. I wouldn't wait any longer to open if I had more. Lovely.

Bottle 2667. Opened and poured. A thick morass of sediment clings to all sides. This potent, jammy aioli spreads across the tongue with a heady dose of deep black cherry, raspberry, blackberry and toasty notes. Humid hoisin notes on the nose, with all the aforementioned fruits, and some drying Indian spices. Thick, glyceric, potent, and altogether delightful for this night....alcohol getting integrated ok and not too hot. Certainly showing no signs of slowing down - there is enough here to …

Bottle 5139. Opened and poured. Light to medium bodied...light ruby to clear on the meniscus. Braised strawberry, brioche toast, some drippy raspberries, bubble gum. Nice and light. Not too flabby or hot. Plummy and oaky on day two....nice and round without any harsh heat.

With Artichoke Calzone.... showing its age, baker’s chocolate, sage, Brazil nuts? very linear except fruit about gone... 2nd Hour-more integrated Brown Sugar, Cherry Pit, dusty light tannin think this will still go a little further in a couple of years. 3rd Hour-Going stronger and finish is strong. Upgrade score to 91. Day 5 from 187ml-with Duck Confit salad- fading but good compliment to food. Apricot, Pruned dark fruit with cherry and more Burgundian profile.

This Pinot is still drinking really well. Plenty of fruit and complexity. It improved significantly after about 10 minutes of air.

Given this bottle from Michael Browne at the winery in '12. Signed at our wedding by guests. Let breathe about an hour in the glass. Somewhat muted nose as a whole. Dark spice driven red fruit, chocolate covered cherries and a hot finish are what I'm getting. Not my favorite bottling from KB. Probably smart they stopped the Syrah bottlings.

Decanted for an hour and then followed for two hours. This is really, really good. Light Barolo violet nose. Smooth, just starting to take on some of the tertiary flavors of age. I guessed it was a 2005 Hospices Premier Cru. Red fruit. Very long finish. No Calif pinot funk. Great balance with an almost velvety mouth feel. Some spice and a bit of acidity. Will probably last another decade.

Adequate acid, tannins resolved, strong notes of black cherries. Drinking terrific and likely at its peak but should hold a few more years. If memory serves, this particular bottling (Sonoma Coast) always drank 'sweeter' than the RR counterpart, but that has seemed to tone down to some extent. I wish remained on this list as I always thought KB was the better of the Pinot Posse producers.

Deeelicious. Tannins totally resolved, but some fruit remains, although it doesnt pop like it probably used to. Raspberry, strawberry, cherries, milk chocolate, and an unexpected freshness uplifting the palate, like underripe watermelon. A truly silky finish, but a touch of heat detracts. Probably a bit past prime, drink up!

Bought and held since release. Popped this tonight. This was exactly what I Was looking for. At distant edge of maturity and drinking window. 14.8% etoh with heat upon warming. Otherwise, this was drinking nicely. Cherry liquor and ripe with smooth almost elegant mouth feel. Touch minerality to add comlplexity. Despite contrarians, KB has a loyal following for exactly this type of bOttling. Pleasing and fulfilling. Glad to have held this till now.

Aged Cherry cough syrup. The 14.8% came through loud and clear (just like cough syrup.....) and the lack of acid and other fruits only exacerbated the remaining savory-ness of this hot mess. I'm not really blaming anyone but myself for this one - I mean I knew when I bought it I was probably making a BIG mistake but I wanted to see what the new turks were doing at the time so I pretty much (totally) ignored common sense …

Opened immediately after removal from the cellar, at 55 degrees. Let it breath, and warm up, for about 30 minutes. Nose was full of spices and a chocolate earthiness from the first sniff. On the palate, the wine seemed somewhat closed. I procrastinated for another half hour or so and the wine began to open. Lots of spices with come tannins slowly coming through. As the next hour went by, some berry fruit began to emerge. All in all, a …

Paired with rack of lamb and rosemary redskins. Oh, this boquet brings me back to the ultra fresh and ripe KBs that were imbibed in their youth. Now, with a maturing inventory of KBs, we tend to hit the older vintages before the younger ones. This Koplen shows some mature oranging on the swirl, and revelas fresh, dark, deep notes of cola, black cherry, thick soy sauce, hoisin, roasted plum, grained toasted oak. Smooth, full bodied, the fruit still holding …

Best bottle we've had of this vintage - elegant and polished from the first sip, great mix of bright berries with just a bit of earthiness - still drinking really well. Gorgeous garnet color. Paired perfectly with fish and veal entrees at a French bistro. Lovely stuff.

Opened by Seaquam at Pasti's with Steve8. I thought this was overly hot and somewhat disjointed. Probably suffered alongside the other Pinots as this was over the top. Some red fruits saved this from disaster.

Blood red center with orange rim. Terrific raspberry and cherry nose with earthy notes of rhubarb and a touch of smoke. The palate is packed with ripe raspberry, cherry, and a deft touch of spicy oak on the long finish. Structurally, there is plenty of acidity and heft to this medium-bodied wine. Overall, this was a wine of depth, control, and balance. Contrary to some beliefs that KB wines are all fruit and alcohol, I found this wine to be …

The best '06 KB I have tasted. This wine was put together in the big, rich Kosta Browne sort of way. What was not present is the big alcoholic finish that I have found on most of '06's. (92)

Overly alcoholic after opening, but then goes back to more normal levels after half an hour of breathing. Ripe red cherries , black fruit, meat and some spices emerge and the wine becomes rounder, and fresher. Still too alcoholic imho, but certainly nice.

Crimson in color. 14.8% ABV. Complex nose of red fruits, violets and baking spice. Medium bodied with ample acidity. The palate is alive with strawberries, bing cherries, plums, brown sugar, earth and cloves. Subtle, silky tannins grace a long, sweet finish. Unmistakably a Russian River Valley Pinot Noir from Kosta Browne. Drink over the next year or so.

Nose a full RRV pinot, but palate was a bit sweet for my tastes. Meal was french onion soup followed by cassoulet, the wine held its own but was a bit fat. Plum, black earth and jam on the nose. Palate tending towards the sweeter end of that spectrum. Drink now, I think this one will start to come unstitched with too much more time.

Deep ruby. Strong nose of cherry cola and berry cocktail. Creamy density and unbelievably big. Shows a bit of bitterness on the finish but it is not nearly as pronounced as it is on other '06 wines from KB. A bit medicinal - hard to enjoy as it is just too much. (86)
