Domaine Castagnier, Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru

My last bottle I believe and unfortunately after showing superbly on previous occasions (rated 94) this bottle was clearly advanced. Still enjoyable and complex for sure but tasted like 90s white Burgundy. So unfortunately premox is alive and kicking at Castagnier in 2011 too... NR

A great match with raw fish. This has GC weight but remains dry and very well balanced without any oiliness or overly oaky or sweet notes so does never overpower the raw fish. White and yellow fruit, a fair bit of chalk and some floral notes. Beautiful Burgundy. Again 94 in my eyes

First time drinking Castagnier so was not sure what to expect. Slow ox’ed for about 45 min. Still a very pale yellow in the glass. No premox so a good start. Reductive style with match sticks joining the white fruit on the nose. Beautiful on the palate, not too rich but with a touch of sweetness, fine texture and very good length. Whether the Chevalier GC premium is justified or not is a separate debate but love the style and …
