Decanted for an hour and drunk over a couple Nose: A gorgeous warm woody, leather and tobacco nose with roasted meat, kirsch, plums and a touch of rum warmth and fug at the end. My first Amarone of this age, and I thought this was terrific. Tawny Port-lite, but with an electric acidity that reminded me of an old Sercial Madeira. Many tertiary flavors but still very vibrant in the mouth. Prunes-in-Armagnac, leather, and dried herbs. Not raisinated. Very slightly off-dry. I thought this was a really beautiful wine - and nothing like the young sweet-and-floppy young Amarone that I've tried.

Delicious, soft mouthfeel, very enjoyable with veal chop and and osso bucco. The body is light/medium. The wine has smooth texture. The wine finishes short. The wine has low acidity. The wine looks garnet colored. There is no sediment in the bottle.

We let this one sit too long. Past it’s prime. Brown-ish, brick. Lots of prunes. Barely drinkable, but the beef steaks allowed consumption. If you have any of this, drink it now. It will be in-drinkable in months. Some may not drink it now. What a shame. Earlier bottles were fantastic!

Delightful nose initially with hints o& butterscotch, Carmel corn , and slight herbal notes. Decanted about an hour and wine was soft and full of flavor.

2000 vintage

It took this bottle a lot of time to not get into the swing. Cork was in poor shape and wine was towards thin at the get go. Mellowing out and becoming quite pleasant with time and food. Prominent and sprawling acids. Not really my cup of tea. One BTL to go, I will let it rest.

Madness and mayhem in Spöland (Spöland, North Sweden) : This is great! Very poor cork. Red with slight bricking. Superbly balanced and rich wine. Beautiful acids and a fine set of tannins. This is a great reason I need to drink many more mature Amarone bottles. 1st btl of 3.

Still towards young, has potential for perfection. I'd suggest to hold your horses for as long as your patience allows you to. Dark red with slight browning hue and small bricking. Nose is grande and sports tobacco, dry autumnal forrest floor (leaves and plants, no fungi), beautiful cherry liqueur aromas, dark woods and aromas that state "very early maturity". I tried to convince myself this wasn’t dead. I even drank a glass and a half hoping the funk would blow off. But it didn’t - it was bad. Poured it down the drain and had a perfectly nice glass of 2016 QPR Chianti. That’s how it goes sometimes.

opened and drunk over different days. Mature red with some brown reflections, first notes of oak, immediately faded away. At the palate clear hints of chocolate cherries, cherry liqueur and ripe plums. Summer 2003 was terribly hot in Italy and maybe this Amarone won't go the long distance. Fashinating but not as seductive as expected. Best paired with Parmigiano Reggiano. Lonely companion of slow evenings while Xmas approaches

This is extremely youthful as a 1967 gets. Yet, it shows its elegant bottle age. The nose reveals classic Valpolicella. It such a great experience to drink a bottle of wine of this age. Astonishing to find out that it still has so much beautiful characteristics. Changes every minute in the glass from sherry to great classic amarone into aged port. I think currently on its return, so don’t wait any longer of you still have bottles in the cellar.

I think that it is impossible to be fair and give this wine a numerical score. This is a classic example of Jean Trimbach's comment "...after a certain age there are no great wines, just great bottles." I have had recent bottles that were loaded with brilliant cherries and red flowers. This was not the case here, however this was a beautiful wine and what you would expect from a 52 year old bottle. Just really beautiful. Still noticeably Amarone but also soft, fragrant, delicate and supremely elegant. A great bottle of wine.

Purchased in 2012. Stored perfectly since. Stunning bottle. Perfect cork. 45 min decant. Dare I say fruit forward. This wine tasted no older than 15 years old. This bottle had at least another 15 years of life left. Certainly in prime and has great balance and finish. This exceeded my expectations based on prior reviews. What a great wine to celebrate my 36th birthday with my parents and one of my sisters.

Nicely evolved in colour - garnet red, hints of orange. Cherries, cherry liquor, earth, tea, old leather, spices on the nose. Quite impressive and very layered. On the palate unfortunately a little inharmonic - the acidity is sticking out to some extent, the fruit seems to be drying out towards the finish. A little thin with good length. Drink up. 87-89

Unquestionably an 'Oh My God' wine from the beautifully dark crimson purple, incredibly youthful color, to the mature haunting aromas to the taste on the palate (almost hard to describe, can just say utterly complex with the age, but still fresh and alive). 50 year old wine. Tasted at our annual Grand Amarone tasting. Nice fruit, quite acidic but balanced. Good length Wow!

Tasted again , last time was Feb 2017. Agree with last tasting, consistently higher acid and less extracted than others. More complex flavors than I remembered, on the nose there are chocolate cherries, cherry liqueur, spearmint and prunes. A bit surprised by the color, fairly rusty, wondering if this will go the distance. Still high acid and medium plus tannins though

Christmas Party - Wine Club (@ HSH) : Interesting touch of yeast but also tobacco and it has a lot of complexity. It does have a liqueur tone still which is impressive for such an old wine. It is certainly still very much alive and kicking and drinking quite nicely.

Still solid, but not as good as when last tasted in a great showing This bottle looks just slightly on its way downhill. Sound and with fruit left but little hints of surmaturity are starting to sneak in.Still a remarkable showing for a 50 yer OLD WINE.
